Welcome to 40 ownership. I'm in Lemon Grove so hit me up if you ever need help working on your 40. My 71 is a resto-mod with a 350 SBC but I'm pretty handy with basic motor stuff.
Installed a new starter 2 weeks ago on my small block 350, then had the 2nd MSD distributor (1st was a pro billet, and the 2nd was an E-Curve) within 3 years fail on me. So this time I replaced it with a HEI from Autozone.....Works like a charm and has a lifetime warranty. I'm really done with...
I would definitely just pull the carb and throw a reduild kit on it. Whatever you do don't replace it with an aftermarket carb (Edelbrock/Holley). I do have to admit that I am currently collecting parts for a TBI conversion. I'm done with carbs!!
