    towing with 80

Go for it. I tow a 18' Maxum ski boat. I think it is 3500lbs with trailer. You are not going to be passing people going up a mountain pass, but your 80 will do the job. I would not go over the recommended 5000lbs. Also, trailer brakes and double axel trailers will really help if you are...

    Brake Job

I need front brakes and was wondering if $220 is a good price for new front brakes and repacking the bearings (trusted shop). 1995 FZJ80 Anyone know what front OEM pads cost if I do the job myself? Also, do the bearings need to be repacked?

    PHH in Salem Oregon

I emptied the block too before doing the PHH. The block drain plug is a brass screw about 8" to the left of the PHH. You may as well drain it while you are in there.

    PHH in Salem Oregon

I got anxious and did the job today. Took a large chunk of my day, but I got it done without any major problems. Couple notes: Removing the transmission dipstick line was helpful. I picked up 2 pair of long needle nose plyers (one has a curved tip) at Harbor Freight for $10. They really...

    PHH in Salem Oregon

Has anyone had their PHH replaced by a shop in Salem Oregon (or Portland, Eugene...)? If so, and you would recommend them, let me know who and the price. I have a new Samco PHH kit and Toyota Red to do a flush, I'm just not sure I really want to do the job. I had one quote for $400-500...

    1994 LC

It is rare to find a one owner 80 with under 100K miles. I don't think the price is far off it checks out mechanically. If you really like it, offer $7500 like someone else said. The value of an 80 can vary greatly depending on condition, mods and your geographic location.

Possibly buying an 80 this Saturday

Unless it comes with records, I would have it looked at. It may have clean paint and interior but need brakes, rotors, axle service, leaks fixed, hidden damage... Have a reputible mechanic write down everything the rig may need and you can use your list of to-dos as a bargaining chip.

    Alternative to Toyota Red

Thanks for all the responses. I picked some Toyota Red up at the local Carquest. Now, time to dive in and replace the PHH........

    Alternative to Toyota Red

I was planning on doing the PHH today. I went by the dealer yesterday to pick up some Toyota red but the parts department was closed for lunch. I wasn't able to make it back and they are closed for the next two days. Is there a good alternative to Toyota Red? I hate to wait any longer as...

    Which engine oil?

I just changed the oil with Mobile-1 High Mileage synthetic 5w30. Walmart just started carrying the 5w30 recently so I thought I would give it a shot. It is $23.00 for a 5 quart jug. I can't tell any difference yet (from Mobile 1 synthetic 10w40 High Mileage). I was burning about a quart per...

Rotational squeak goes away w/ light brake pressure?

I would check the brakes first too. It could be the wear indicator for your break pad(s). It's a metal piece by the pad that lightly scratches the drum to warn you that your breaks are nearing the end (mine started squeeking with 20-30% pad left).

ideal size street wheels/tires on stock height

Post some pics when you decide. Consider throwing some BFG TA KO's on your new 18's when you get them. It will give you the rugged look and great functionality (on and off road). Also, you may find more examples of 18's if you search 1st gen tundra wheels (2000-2006) on cardomain.

19 MPG? Is this a fluke?

FLUKE At least I hope so. The best I have gotten is 14 mpg. :flipoff2:

ideal size street wheels/tires on stock height

I would (and did) keep the original wheels and get bigger tires to fill the wheel well. I went with BFG TA KO 285/75/16. They look rugged and drive great on the road. If you want a custom look, maybe powder coat your wheels (black seems to be popular these days). I like the look of bigger...

Buying - Paint condition on a 11k LC

I live in Salem. The one I bought was in Hillsboro. I set an appointment at Landcruiser Specialties in Oregon City and drove it over for the inspection. I have seen the one you are looking at in McMinnville in ads. Just ask the owner to either let you drive it to an inspection or have the...

Buying - Paint condition on a 11k LC

At that price I would expect it to need nothing, it should have maintnenace records (+ baselining), newer tires, very nice interior, good paint (& probably extras like ARB bumper, lift...). It MAY be worth the money up here. There are some around here with less miles in the $7-8K range. You...
