They are awesome. Very economical. Light weight and smooth. The PD diesels have some cam wear issues but even then usually get 80-150k out of them. Keep the proper oil in them and change timing belt every 80k. Don't be tempted to run wvo or waste motor oil in them, they seem to coke badly...
I don't have any spare hard lines but I do have a complete compressor from an 87 if it will interchange with yours. Not sure if the compressor is good but I would sell you the hard plates for whatever the forum regular going price is shipped. I personally wouldn't try an old used compressor...
I fit an aftermarket I think it was called Pacific condenser on my 87. Has a lot more cooling exchange capacity than the original 4Runner with the added rows. You'll want this added performance in hot humid regions like the south east as r134 isn't as efficient as r12. It also significantly...
Question for all you Toyota 8" axle gurus. I'm running a 4cyl rear axle. Inside it I have a v6 third with 4.30 gears. If I want to go with a locker , do I need to buy any special bearings to fit the v6 locking spool in my 4 cyl housing?
Or do I just assemble the new e locker spool with...
My next experiment, will be during the winter, is to remove the evaporator and delete the expansion valve. I will then modify the inlet to going into the fire wall to accept an orifice tube.
I'm just guessing here as I my AC experience is limited to the purchase of a pump, gauges and YouTube...
Not only have I replaced all the foam in the blend doors and on the HVAC mating surfaces but due to the design of the TDI coolant system I have bypass tees that allows coolant to still flow through the engine side heater core system even with the valve cut into the off position.
I can barely...
Still working out the ac. My ac compressor is a variable compressor.
I replaced my original expansion valve with new denso. No difference.
Replaced my drier with new denso, no difference.
Replace my condenser with a pacific brand more efficient style and now I'm getting vent temps down...
My IAT were a little hotter than I'd like. I was hitting maintaining 120 to 150 on a 70 degree day. My 7.3 excursion stays 70 on a 70 degree day.
Added a 6 inch electric fan and air scoop to the skid plate. Lowered it 20 to 50 degrees overall.
I purchased a few other intercoolers I'm...
The ball joints spacers do not change the front drive shaft pinion angel. The diff drop spacers do. My transmission has been forward about 4 or 6 inches from stock mounting position so even if I went out and gave you my pinion angle measurements they would be useless in a stock application...
Yes as the other poster mentioned it alleviates bad cv angle that can cause binding at droop that would likely eat a drive shaft quickly. The only downside is that now your front drive shaft is at a less than ideal angle. Good news is that it wasn't exactly ideal from the factory. So long as...
I'm running 2 inch ball joints spacers. Make sure you get the diff drop spacers as well, the bj spacers can cause cv axle binding at full droop.
I'd replace ball joints if yours have any age in them, the spacers are hard on the ball joints.
New shocks were needed as the OEM length didn't...
The rear axle shafts on the 87 4 runner are the same length on each side. When removed they fit nicely in the trunk of a VW with no room to spare on either side. Its much closer to being centered in the LC axles.
I've been there before. At that point I weight out how much would it cost me to make the fj80 axle work vs selling it off (used 80 axles don't come cheap) vs obtaining a 14b. I want 80 axles for a disco 2 build. When they come available they are insanely priced and go quicky. A 14b almost...
Are you set on Toyota axle matching set? GM/Chevy uses the same 6 bolt pattern and center diff. I believe the 14b can be found in a 63" width which seems tempting when it comes to the cost of customizing an fj80 axle vs tossing in a stock 14b with a gear change. Pretty sure that would be more...
Update. Guy picked it up and was happy with the current power output with just the set timing to 0. He wanted to drive it around and see how he likes it. So far no complaints.
Does the 1990 22r (carburetor) non EFI have a cdi box? It looks like a simple dizzy/pickup/ignition coil set up for the ignition system.
Note:I'm on the wrong coast for Cali equipped vehicles.
