No tests prior to removing the head. My Cruiser was using water so it had to be either the head or the block.
I didn't want to attempt a repair of the existing block as this truck has to be reliable as we use it for our Moroccan adventures. I managed to source a secondhand replacement block which I then had refurbed, then rebuilt the motor with many new bits.

I am pretty confident with the wiring and plumbing etc but as Andrew suggests, I might get some one to set up the differential itself.
One thing puzzles me though, what's this 3rd member you talk of...

Heck.... if the axle needs drilling I guess it will need taking off the truck first :frown: you sure it's not the diff housing/carrier that's drilled Mike?

There have been 'issues' with my 80 ever since I brought it.
There has always been a small amount of 'oil' in the header tank, I washed it out numerous times but after a few days it reappeared. I fitted a new thermostat, rad cap and radiator not long after buying her. She never used any water...
I thought the trans case diff was another name for the center diff.
I'm confused now, I clearly need to read the manual more :D

I thought the 'barrels' were part of the block... so can't be pulled out :confused:
As there doesn't appear to be much material between the cylinders and water jacket, there isn't much for the machine shop to 'play' with.
