HDJ81 is gone - replacement is awesome

The V10 is an absolute beast! Not the greatest fuel efficiency, but who cares with that kind of torque. The problem is that any major engine work requires pulling the whole motor out. That would be a huge expense right there. New these things are completely out of my reach. Used, well I didn't...

HDJ81 is gone - replacement is awesome

So I sold my HDJ81 back in March. After some shopping around I picked up a 2010 VW Touareg TDI Highline. Wow! What a torque monster! This thing is powerful and very refined. You can barely tell it's a diesel unless you stick your head under the hood. I drove it back to Winnipeg from Edmonton and...

    1990 HDJ81 5 speed - for sale

For you American enthusiasts, I may consider storing the truck until August when it is eligible for US import. Shoot me a PM if interested. The engine and transmission alone from this truck are worth $8000!

Sure. I have driveway space. I'll even wash it occasionally.

    1990 HDJ81 5 speed - for sale

Okay, I've edited the original post. The truck will still be eligible for registration. I called out MPI on the incorrect information they gave me. All that's required to re-register will be an inspection. I'm reluctantly letting this go for sale to someone with more time than me.

    1990 HDJ81 5 speed - for sale

****The truck has sold. We're just finalizing the shipping.**** My local insurance monopoly has written off my Cruiser due to a hit and run. Damage is limited to the rear quarter (sheetmetal, light, bumper end, mudflap). After fighting with the insurance company for a year, I managed to get a...

    Circulating heater install on 1HDT

I found a heater with integrated pump a while back, but when I inquired into the price, it was close to $2K. I could get two Webastos for that.

    Circulating heater install on 1HDT

That's not quite true in my experience. Even with the valve closed, I still get decent flow through the block. That's why it's so key to have the heater mounted to the frame rail. And to have no air at all!

    Circulating heater install on 1HDT

It may take a long time to clear the air out. The water valve is a high point. Keep burping out air and it should eventually work. You could raise the front end for quicker burping.

1-hdt BEB replaced, now my starter spins but Engine does not crank

I guess they take a beating under the hood of a tough offroading truck that annually experiences an 80°C temperature change.

1-hdt BEB replaced, now my starter spins but Engine does not crank

The 34/78DT's from Costco are what I've been running for the past several years. I did get new ones after 2 years with the first two. They wouldn't hold a charge. I popped them out in the Costco parking lot, brought them in and came out with 2 brand new ones.

    Circulating heater install on 1HDT

Sounds normal to me. I get the same heat performance after installing the circulating heater as I did before. Except now my engine is warm after being plugged in. When the ambient is below -20C, I put cardboard in front of my rad and I idle up to 1200 when sitting in traffic. The temp gauge...

Anyone check ebay Australia? I'm sure I saw a few RHD valves on there in the past. Or check Milner Offroad in the UK.

HDJ81: No power to radio, clock, cigarette lighter, dome lights

I will try a new fuse. The way I tested was to probe both sides of each and every fuse with a DMM. 12 volts on both sides indicates a good fuse.
