Now I am really confused. My 1997 LX450 (80) will climb up an icy driveway better than any other 4X4 I have seen. It will do this while in low range (center diff locked). Will a new Tacoma (or 4-runner with the center lock on) be able to do this? My father-in-laws 4X4 ranger will never even...
Are you sure about that? Is the 4Runner a full-time 4X4 as it does have the center diff lock. If the Tacoma does not have a locking center diff, what keeps either a front or rear wheel from spinning and loosing power to both axles?
4X4 pickup trucks are usually pretty bad about this. It...
Can somone tell me if the Tacoma with the offroad package is the same 4X4 system as the 4Runner? The Tacoma with the offroad package appears to have a locking rear diff but does it have the locking center diff???? The 4Runner seems to have the locking center diff standard on all 4X4 models...
Mine uses almost a quart in 1,000 miles of around town driving on most all oil I have tried in both 30 weight and 40. Now after trying many different types of oil (both synthetic and Dino) truck & SUV mobil 1 seems to do the best for me. Even consumes a little less than Rotella Synthetic...
Thanks B. I got it back most of the way by hand turning the side by the console and hiting the back control. I may take your advise and pull the 4 bolts and take a look.
Thanks
Andrew
Landtank, I think you are correct. One side is turning on its own the other is not. That is why it is twisting. I am actually able to turn the one side back a 1/8 inch or so at a time so with some patience, I think I can get it back and leave it alone.
Thanks all!!!
Yes, my wife and I are both tall so the seats go all the way back for the both of us. We don't move them. I have no idea how these things work but I bet a drive gear of some sort is broken as the initial growl was not good.
Thanks
Andrew
Mot, good point and sorry about the missing details. The motor appears to be working. It try's to move the seat. It died after I was having the truck detailed and the cleaner put the seat forward. My wife went to put it back and it made a growling noise and tries to twist the seat but it...
Well, someone in the truck moved it forward and now it will not go back. The seat is all the way pushed up so my wife with her long legs, can't sit in it.
The dealer want's a lot of $ to fix this. I just want to move it back and it can stay that way. Anyone know how to move it back without...
Mine has this problem from time to time and is actually worse during the winter??? Not sure if bad gas or what. I drive 99% stop and go and that may lead to more engine deposits (burns some oil with stop and go driving and burns none on the road, could this be the cause of more engine...
Thanks DougM. I think the long interval part is (lack of proper maintance) dead on. Since this truck does consume some oil, I have switched away from synthetic and gone back to inexpenive quality dinos. I think I will continue with 2k-3k OCIs for a while as hopefully this will promote "slow"...
As always, thanks for the info and link. Both of those look a little better than mine. Mine appears darker more like the second pick. However, both of those don't seem to have the dark thin coating mine had. The long metal shaft looked like it had some paint on it that if you were very...
Ok, I finally got around to changing the gasket on the oil level sensor. It has been leaking some oil and it was past due. One queston about the sensor itself. Is the part that goes into the oil pan painted a dark color? At first I thought mine had burned oil on it but it appears to be a dark...
Ok, I know it has been a while but I just got around to changing the gasket on the oil level sensor. One queston about the sensor itself. Is it painted a dark color? At first I thought mine had burned oil on it but it appears to be a dark coating like paint. If it is not paint then it must...
My 97 has carpet in pretty good shape except for a hole just in front of the right side of the driver's seat. It has a whole that is slowly getting bigger and loosing insulation. Since it is not in a real noticable place, is there any way to patch the hole and do a good match job?
If there...
I know most of you drive these trucks due to their great off road capabilities. They are also rugged and well built. We here a lot about that but what about the great versatilitiy of these trucks. Let me give you an example.
I have a young family of 4. I use my truck during the week to...
The reason I was concerned about the demineralized water causing a problem is kind of similar to putting a water softner on an old house that has really hard water. The now soft water (lower PH and Alkalinity) can cause the deposits to break loose (disolve and go back into solution) in old...
