Don't modern boat trailer surge brakes have a solenoid activated by the backup lights to shut the brakes out when backing up, and therefore require 4 wires + ground?
I've towed more weight than that, however it was on a car trailer, so I have some ability to change the tongue weight. I have air bags as well. Buy a pair of bags, hook the boat on and see what it feels like. I expect you would be OK without a fancy hitch.
I have the Firestone Ride Rite bags. They differ from the Air Lift bags in that they have the air line come in from the top. They also have you reduce the bump stop by about half IIRC. Obviously, with any vendor, you could do whatever you want. One bag failed on me, Firestone replaced it...
I tow a lot with an LX with AHC. I have Firestone air bags. A couple of my equipment trailers have a lot of tongue weight, to the point where if I have all of my work tools and the 3rd row seats and one of these trailers on, the AHC might shut down. The air bags allow me to not be concerned...
It shows up under the hood of anything 3-ton and up with hydraulic brakes. F-700, Topkick, Motorhomes, etc. GM probably did it to cars at various points in their diesel days.
Nice thread. I have also thought about this. My question is: Did they really put that on the low tech 100s and 105s sold? Is there not another Toyota spec'd MC that will do the work? How different is the 80 series MC or the Tundra or earlier T-100, etc.
Personally, I like the Bendix MC...
Well I guess it makes sense to walk home and get your 3/4 ton instead of using the second gear hold mode to drive out of a tight spot.
here is a good thread that defines RTFM quite well:

Did you want a Citroen? I imagine the engineer at Toyota who made the same suggestion still gets made fun of. There is likely a giant poster of the potential change in fuel economy on the wall in his office.
Gimmicks: A Jeep thing that we wouldn't understand...
Use an inexpensive pair of MacPherson strut spring compressors to remove and replace the rear springs on AHC rigs. You will be in and out in minutes without the chance of stretching the brake flex lines. The AHC bump stop is not exactly the same as the regular LC item, and they need to be...
I used a small scissor jack to lift the body from the frame slightly and sneak my new rear pressure line into place. The emphasis should be on slight lifting. You can do it! I cut the ols one out.
When I picked up the replacement line for my LX, another was on the rack in the service bay...
I wouldn't unplug the alternator and then start the engine. I doubt this issue is alternator related. You need to go back over your work and ensure that you don't have a bad ground wire or something really bad like a shorting out heavy wire to the starter. Keep in mind that the problem began...
I imagine the diagnostic system is taking a reading after some length of wiring harness exposure, as well as being exposed to the shared loads of other systems.
I used to be a generator operator on movie sets. If a plant had an alternator go bad, or a battery, we would change both components...
A quality multimeter checking the voltage right at the battery would be a good way to determine if there is an issue with your alternator.
This brings us to a chicken vs. egg conversation. Do weak older batteries cause greater arcing at the solenoid and wear the starter contacts rapidly, or do...
These are not Fords, the transmissions seem to either fail or not fail. At $2500 for that drivetrain, one might ask why anyone bothers to replace their timing belt, because it can probably go another 130 000 miles with only oil changes.
