Hey All,
Got a set of axles off a 89 FJ62. I pulled these about 5 years ago and spent time dismantling, cleaning etc.
I was going to prep for an SOA on my FJ60. Or at least upgrade the 60 with the 4.11 diffs.
Never actually did either one. So I'm selling all or the parts.
Posing here since...
Hi Alex,
Thanks for posting your details.
Is your lift around 3 inch?
Was the valving choice you made for the front based on your heavy bumper?
I'm thinking about getting the same size/travel with the softer option right above yours in the chart.
It all went back together ok.
Had to get an original size piston from BapGeon. Only place i could find one.
Came with rings.
Used a toyota head gasket.
Tons of cleaning, labor intense.
Been running good for a year now.
Glad for all the mud help. Otherwise could not have done it
Hey Hampton Roads

PM me if anyone is interested. going...
Hi,
Anyone got a stock, STD size 2F Flat top piston laying around?
I have a bad one and cant get one from Toyota anytime soon.
After market is dried up as well.
There are oversized ones out there but I dont have ability to bore the cylinder.
Thanks
Dave
Hey Crusher,
Yeah the other cylinders had 'OK' compression , 130-150 range. #2 was 30. Thats what led me to the piston/ring problem.
Not sure where the dings came from. Possibly part of ring, or something through the intake. Ive had the carb off a bunch over the years.
Valves are all good...
Hi All,
I was replacing the rings on 1 piston in an 85 2F, I believe to be stock.
New oil rings went in very tight and it appears that the groves were deformed a bit.
So I am ordering 1 piston.
I "think' I am stock, the pistons are flat top.
The piston has a 48 on top, and TEQ, ART and 48 on...
Thanks Shaft.
No creases, just the bend. It goes back flat easily.
I'm probably being too picky.
Found this same question on in the 80 section. Mine is no where near as bent.
Bent new head gasket, to use or not to use...
Hey All,
I think this Head Gasket is probably OK.
Ordered Genuine Toyota part for about $110.
Arrived with one end of the carton slightly bent.
Took a bunch of pics in case it was damaged inside.
The gasket is bent but looks unhurt.
Welcome comment on whether this looks OK or if I should RMA...
Yeah that brings up a point. The Original Post was meant as a request to find out if I had really diagnosed the problem before tearing into the engine.
Obviously I was not correct. Hearing air escape at the exhaust was not the full issue. I did not hear the greater air volume hitting the lower...
Well turns out my diag was not 100%.
After a cleanup on the block and pistons it was obvious that #2 had had some trauma.
Not a hole or anything but something made the passage at some point in the last 31 years.
#2, something shewed up the manifold side.
To check the ring seal,I put some oil...
Hi All,
I sacked up and pulled the head today.
Was pretty straight forward just time consuming.
Here's what the valves looked like after pulling it
I have the head on the bench and put water in the #2 Exhaust for 40min or so. No leak.
Dumped the water and filled with Gas. It started...
Holy crap. Seems like that would have destroyed the piston.
Reminds me of a crown coming off while drunkenly chowing down on a burger.
It can take some others with it.
Thanks for the info on Cost.
Thanks
Assuming it is a bad exhaust valve, does anyone know what I should expect to pay a shop to fix.
I have a local head shop that charged me $100 to resurface the manifolds last year.
