I bought an Alucab RTT and took it camping this weekend. No rain said the weather guys, but it rained, and the tent worked perfectly

Welcome from Namibia AndreV. Lots of useful information on this forum. And we can cry on each other's shoulder about the fuel consumption of that 4500 EFI, but it is worth it

Isolator, solar panel and battery the triangle of love ...

Hi Vulkyn Sorry about very late reply The DC-DC charger will only charge and manage the aux battery. It has inputs for the solar panel and the alternator ( from the original wiring ) and that is the only connection to your car's electrical system. It also acts as an isolator and you can...

Isolator, solar panel and battery the triangle of love ...

Hi Vulkyn There is a lot of info an chatter about dual battery systems Just having the two batteries in parallel when the main one is charged ( your present lay out ) is not optimal and one of them will not reach full charge. The best solution is to replace the isolator with a DC to DC...

New Member - 79 series double cab from South Africa (now in Zambia)

I have a 2003 double cab conversion from Meano, with the little triangle, but with the 4500 EFI motor. Most of the problems were related to the conversion nl rear door windows that sag open on its own, rear doors closing like a Landrover's, with quite a big gap in the seals, rear door latches...

What did you do on your 70 series today?

Hi divemedic Its old, but it seems you know your cruisers. I wanted one as well and got it! It is one my dreams came true and even better than I hoped. Except for a thirst of biblical proportions. It has the 4500 EFI engine

What did you do on your 70 series today?

After 14 years and more than 100 000 very tough kilos I had the front suspension replaced with OME coils and shocks and the rear suspension upgraded to OME shocks. The old front coil was fitted above the rear blades and the whole suspension ended about 4 cm higher, a very close fit in my garage...

    Skottle

Interesting name that. If you google it, you will find 'skottel'. It is Afrikaans for a dished plow ( skottel skaar ) and apparently this dish was removed from the plow ( or a spare one used ) and used to prepare food on in the fields. Cadac makes a very nice butane gas powered one very...

    LED lantern

I have two different sizes of these liteXpress | Premiumline | Lanterns They are robust give decent light and use little battery power. They are not rechargeable and I see it as an advantage. It will last a week of use on one set batteries

Gravel road and part time 4wd

Thanks JuanJ Mine is a 2003 model and all manual shifting and it does have a EFI engine, but the transfer case is sometimes of the two handed type. accodring to its book when in 4H the central differential is locked. My personal feeling is that I am more comfortable in 2wd on gravel road...

Gravel road and part time 4wd

Thanks for the replies. It looks as it does not have major advantages in terms of road holding and handling and actually very few disadvantages as well. One advantage mentioned to me from a quite knowledgeable mechanic is that the front differential gears wear out by being vibrated on one area...

Gravel road and part time 4wd

Hi My 79 have part time 4wd and when in 4wd there is in effect a locked central differential Does driving on gravel roads ( we have many leading to interesting places ) with H4 engaged make a difference in road holding/handling. Some swear that you use it as such for safety reasons. Personally...

    All Things Sausage!

You call that sausage? This is sausage! This is boerewors and the recipe from BJTLC100 is way to simple. Some of these recipes are kept as secrets in families and you can win a pick-up ( Toyoyta )every year for the country wide competitions. Really. You don't barbecue boerewors, you...

    Yokohama Super Hajari 7.5 x16

Here n South Africa or Namibia it is the standard tire for the 79 series pick-up. It comes with the 16" split rims and tubes and the idea is that is thin enough not to protrude beyond the wheel arches and that you can take of the tire without special tools, but it is actually quite difficult...

    Brand new 2013 Double cab

It is available in South Africa as well, but with the 4.6 V6 petrol engine. Waiting for the bi-turbo diesel V8 later this year, but it needs 50ppm diesel which is not available everywhere yet. Also standard with the skinnies, apparently because it does not have wheel fenders, but most people...
