so these are last summer, not today. but i was looking back at the photos today. think this is a bit different than i've seen from others posts.
so i turned my m101cdn into a 'boat trailer' for a fishing trip on the coast. carried a 13ft zodiac, inflatable kayak, 20hp outboard, a freezer, a...
anyone who upgraded to the bigger FZJ80 rear brakes have a useable RR backing plate?
I need a small brake one. Mines got some rust between the layers and swelled/warped. The center seems to have gotten into the back of the hub. Might be able to salvage it if nothing else is available.
sometimes with moose.
call it what you want. important part is getting out there.
lately not having my cruisers along as often and found sometimes its refreshing not to have your truck/equipment be such a central focus of a trip.
only you can answer the question of is it worth doing. really depends what you want from it.
but the cummins powertrain is excellent. if you shift your trip focus away from wheeling and more towards cruising and hauling especially. i wouldn't be concerned about 300k with no signs of poor engine...
fired up the old 60 thats been sitting a while. started up fine. Had previously noticed it was a bit more sensitive to glow time and stumbled and smoked if i didn't glow a lot (and after glow). so figured start with checking the basics.
decided to do a compression test since I'd never checked it...

My 66 when I bought it 20+ years ago. found under a lean to by a wood pile. engine seized. cheap. i had access to shop space and tools. i had a fair bit of time, money not so much.
fall 2001
got it running so put temporary permits on it to get some seat time. started body work on the...
I did early tundra brakes with fror brackets on mine. I don't have a brake booster on my 66 so I went tundra calipers for the bigger pistons to lighten pedal effort. works ok. brakes are much bigger than the 40/60/ifs vented parts. had to do a little grinding to run split rims. looked to me like...
busy week for the 40
relocated my front shackle hangers.
put on a few months insurance and finally got an error in the paperwork corrected
went for a club run/camping/wheeling weekend trip
Got to diagnose and replace a faulty ignition module when the truck suddenly died on the side of the...

camped on the way to the trail. up early for 10am meet up
group all gathered in the meadows eventually
dusty conditions
yes you have a point that they are stiff tires. though these are rated load range D they have 4 steel plies in tread and 1 steel ply in sidewall. Canadian army used them on the G wagons so I found a batch of 6 take offs locally.
I like the size. In that first photo they are beside a mounted...
I run surplus 8.25r16 xzl michelins on my 40. got them cheap enough to try on some splits. work ok. run smooth without balancing. they are very heavy though. Had some issues with tube life airing down
Hello to you as well! Hoping to get one of the cruisers on the road this summer and then maybe we could catch up by a campfire on one of the club runs. Otherwise another island trip is likely this summer. Don't think I ever thanked you for the tips on planning last year. If you plan to go back...

fantastic to see nice trucks come north of the border, rather than ours just heading south
Appreciate all the suggestions guys. will do some reading and look through the maps.
The trip planning is still a moving target. sounds like the mrs wants to also detour to cortez from quadra. and may also want to be in CR sooner. But I figured what i listed at the start was a decent crack at a...
