Quick question on timing...
Does clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation of the distributor retard timing? I know, I should have a timing light, etc., but just trying to get her to stop pinging long enough to get it safely back to the mech that just did the HG replacement.
Valves are...
I'll talk with him again when I take it in for the knock sensor. The wires are missing their heat wrap. I just had a look and all wires are in good shape. Wrapped in foil for the time being, as I've read many a story about compromised coatings on the wires causing lots of headaches...
HG blew at cylinder #1, no surprise. I got the LC back on Thursday, purring like a kitten and much more responsive than before she blew. The next morning, I noticed an intermittent misfire just off idle. While nosing around under the hood, I noticed that the heat wrap was no longer around the...
Having a knowledgeable mech do the HG. Also replacing the 3 big coolant hoses and Tstat. Any other suggestions while she's apart? Just trying to get it into shape so's I can sell it and move along, so I'm not really wanting to fix every little thing.
Thx.
I just wanted to attest, yet again, to the wealth of knowledge based on this site.
I'd been getting a CEL for a few seconds every couple of weeks for the last few months, along with a short stumble while accelerating just after startup. Last week, the light stayed on. Pulled codes 21, 83...

The search engine is very useful, just takes a little practice and maybe a few different word combinations to get what you want.

Have you checked your rear quarter vent duct assembly?

My post on this page includes a toyodiy.com link, but the diagrams have been removed and only part numbers remain. :frown:

CDan suggested that I use Downey to quiet the groanining. I tried it (Downey Free, don't need dyes or fragrance) and she's been all quiet for a year now. He mentioned the silicone as the secret ingredient. New fluid's best, but fabric softener might quiet the system until you're ready to do...
I used sticky felt pads which seem to work OK. My vent vanes were also pointing in weird directions, too. They're all connected in back by a strip of plastic with holes every ~1/2". A small zip tie cut to length and then drilled for the vane nibs works very well at getting them all to agree...
I'm just adding oil right now. It's just not a huge issue since I drive ~7 miles/day. It'll be done next winter, I suppose, when perfect weather's back.
For the sending unit: ToyoDIY.com
Very handy site. The link is for a 1993, but the sender should be same for all FZJ80s. You can change the year to yours and use the site as a great reference tool.
HTH, and welcome.
How did you check the shocks? My reason for asking: replacing my shocks with a new set of OEMs completely removed the speed bump clunk. I'm no help with any other issue listed, sorry.
