That Daihatsu is hilarious! It looks like a baby Land Cruiser in the same sort of way a German Shepherd puppy resembles an adult - it's obviously the same species, but the proportions are just. . . wrong.
Eat your vegetables little guy, and you can grow up to be an FJ-40!
If you're just...
OLIVE - Best factory color IMO for a military-derived vehicle. Highlights the white roof and bezel better than beige.
SMURF BLUE - Probably the most distinctive Land Cruiser color. You are least likely to be mistaken for a Jeep with this one.
WHITE - Most of these rigs don't have air...
So you can now toss a dead rat over your shoulder and it automatically lands on a mothballed Land Cruiser. This leaves me with two questions:
1. Just when exactly did you sell your soul?
2. Can you hook me up with your broker?
Hmm. . .the last FJ was being looked over by a guy in dark...
If you've already got a Series 80, you own the final word in solid front axle, inline-6 TLC wagons. Not sure why you would want to replace that for the "joys" of no AC, manual steering, drum brakes, less power, lower gas mileage, and all the corrosion resistance of toilet paper to a tropical...
I had the same issues with basically stock suspension and 31x10.5's New tie rod ends, rebuilt center arm assembly, and drag-link assembly made it drive like a completely different vehicle. I'm no longer terrified coming home from Big Bear.
I like the way the Jerry cans, ammo cans, and spare mount all go together, but I would not go for that cooler mount. I like being able to see out the rear window.
Well, everything that these folks have said about the hazards of owning a 30+ year old vehicle is true, however, if you ARE going to own a vehicle that old as your only set of wheels, you aren't likely to find one more bulletproof.
40 vs. 55: The 40 is unquestionably the better off-roader...
That's a factory-installed safety feature. A fast Cruiser is a SCARY cruiser.
Seriously, if you've got a 2F that's solid, keep it. As Confucious says, "The oxen are slow, but the earth is patient". Much to be said for a proven motor that can't break.
If you are bound and determined to...
If I irrevocably fragged my 2F, I'd be looking at later fuel-injected inline-6 Landcruiser motors, and probably choose the motor with the intention of plugging in a FJ-60 powder steering conversion in the process.
I'd want the relative simplicity of a Toyota-to-Toyota swap, and avoiding the...
You've got a hardtop FJ-43. . .you are a galactic-core, supermassive black hole of suck.:flipoff2: I've wanted a 43 since seeing Crocodile Dundee II.
Folks in other countries claim all kinds of reasons for hating the USA.
The FJ-43 is the American Cruiserhead's reason for hating the rest...
In a lot of ways, you have a perfect assault vehicle. Any collectible "originalness" is toast, the body is battered, but the chassis is sound. I think your path is fairly straightforward:
Tranny is priority one - it's gotta be able to roll on its own before anything else matters.
Springs and...
If I ever pull the tub off my 40, once the rust is gone, the entire underside and interior will be getting bedlinered.
I'll also be taking measures to seal up the firewall so that what happens in the engine bay stays in the engine bay.
You snagged the entire parts rig. Smart lad!
Having only recently done the tie rods after owning my '40 since 1996, I would STRONGLY suggest you make that one of your first missions. It's like a completely different vehicle.
As for the GREEN. . .I dunno. I always used the green crayon...
Nah. What you need is a good set of chrome spinners. . .
I don't see it making a lot of difference with the metallic paint you used on the wheels, but judging by the amount of iron oxide on your frame, blinging the rims should wait at least until you've purple metal-flaked the rest of the truck.
I would start with an e-mail to Specter Off Road in Chatsworth, California, Specter Off-Road, Inc. Land Cruiser Parts and Accessories. They move Land Cruiser parts to and from everywhere in the world. While they're in the business of making money on L.C. parts, they are helpful folks who would...
