Gertrude (my 83 HJ60) has about 255,000 km's on her.
I came across a '87 75 series a year or so ago with less than a thousand km's on it. Was bought new and fitted with a tank and fire pump and sits next to a bush airstrip (belonging to a mining company). Still smells like new inside :)
If I understand correctly, he wants to spin the old motor using the cylinder/piston as an air compresor, rather than spinning an air compressor with the motor.
Not sure how a 2 stroke would go, I reckon you'd get crank case oil coming out (normally blue smoke when the motors running, but a...
We run a fleet of Troopys with this style of airbag in the rear end, they're brilliant.
These vehicles spend their entire lives working in exploration, in the sort of wilderness most people only dream of. Flex hasn't been an issue.
There are various manufacturers who offer kits for...
That's correct, our roads are a lot safer here!
It is possible to register just about anything, it just needs to be proven through engineering to be safe.
ARB's probably aren't the best locker for every situation, but for the purpose they were designed for, they are brilliant.
It seems from reading on here, that quite a lot of people build up their 4wd for offroad use, and don't use it a lot on the road any more.
Here in Australia, where...
For me it would be one of the last 1HZ powered trayback cruisers.
Japan really did prolong the life of the US auto industry by not selling them there... I'm sure they would have killed off the pickup's of your big 3
I got a semi metalic tint put on my 60 about 18months ago.
I reckon it looks pretty good, its near on impossible to see into at a casual glance, but easy to see out. Much better than the black/charcoal tints in that regard.

My preference is for a unifilter/ finer filter style oiled foam element that replaces the paper filter in the original air box.
I'm not a fan of the POD style filters, and haven't heard many good things about K&N.
We have a bunch of the V8's here at the mine, all work 24hrs a day but do lots of stop start driving. If they've sat long enough to cool down they certainly arent warmed up at all....
So far none have had anything except regular maintainance
1HZ motor? Maybe for 3rd world markets. Around here it has a stump pulling brand new V8 turbo diesel.
They don't however have airbags, ABS, stability control, traction control
If you want one, I'll pick it up from the dealer, beat it with some chains, hoon through some sand and mud, and...
It all comes down to what you want the vehicle to do.
For reliability, and off road ability (ie low down grunt) the 2H is a brilliant engine.
The next step up would be the 1HZ motor, not fitted as standard to the vehicle, but almost as good offroad and as reliable.
For city and highway...
A troopy of that vintage will go anywhere, it just wont do it very fast. Anything you do to try and make it fast (without spending mega dollars) will compromise something else, offroad ability, reliability, etc...
A 2H will do the speed limit on a decent road without too many worries, it...
I've had 3 tires go in a day working out around Panawonica (WA Aust), carrying 2 spares certainly isn't overkill if you're doing some proper 4wd work!
The tires were at correct inflation, and I was travelling slowly avoiding stakes etc. it was just bad ground and worse luck.

Please please please be cautious buying these landcruisers from Aus, as they are in some cases stolen!
I'm sure there are probably some reputable agencies exporting new landcruisers out of Aus, but there are apparantly cases of these vehicles being stolen at only a few days old and shipped...
Its because they've both done as much work as each other, and if one has failed the other will really soon. Much better to fix it while its still working, than possibly haveing it leave you stranded.
