if they think it has to do with bumpers, lifts, and winches; How do they explain the fact that this has been documented on bone stock FJs that have never left pavement.
Yes, fender bulges and cracking have been documented, but it is not linked to bumpers or lifts, or any other aftermarket parts. It has been documented on stock FJs that have never left pavement. I've been out of the loop for a bit, so maybe they finally made an official statement on the...
six speed all the way. Soooooooooooo much fun! Throw on a URD short shifter and some TWM Performance weighted knobs and you'll never look back!!!!!! MT!!! MT!!!!!!! MT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had an extra set of bezels for my fog lights, so I decided to paint them red to give them some pop. I like how it turned out. Krylon fusion for plastic is what I used.
I disagree. You don't need to be a hard core wheeler to appreciate or notice the performance from a high end suspension.
I do agree that you will be happy with the OME lift and that it is a good product. But after switching form OME to Icon, I'm extremely pleased with my setup.
As far as...
Icon designed their lift specifically for the FJ from the ground up. They will also customize your setup if you want. For example, they used a heavier oil and stiffer coils than they normally use to handle the extra weight on my rig.
The Toytec lift is really nice too. Basically the same as OME. That would be sweet to paint the coils red. I wish Icon offered red coils. Blue or yellow could look cool on the right rig too.
OME is a great lift and very reasonable as far as price. I had OME heavy front and medium rear, but recently upgraded to the ICON long travel front coils, light racing jounce shocks, and light racing UCAs. The new setup is in another league with regards to handling, front end dive, bottoming...
They don't even put FJs out on the front lot at the dealers around here anymore. They are tucked way in the back corner of the rear lots if they even have them.
I remember reading somewhere that the OEM alternator is actually really high quality. I asked about doing this upgrade when I put in my dual battery and other electrical components, but was told it was not necessary. Let me know what you find out.
The more tank-like the better IMO. I know that bolt on bush guards can be damage multipliers, but Bars that are welded onto steel after market bumpers definitely offer more protection. I had an accident where I hit a concrete lane divider (at highway speed) and spun into another car. My fault...
