Ok fellow gear heads, I have finally gotten the funds together to get my motor rebuilt (again) and needed some advice.
Background: I built a 22RE for my 4Runner a year ago, it was bored over .30 stroked and had high compression pistons in it. The #1 cylinder rod bearing gave up after being...
If you have never done it before do a YouTube search on doing rear drums. They aren't hard there are just a couple pointers that you should know. Pay attention to which shoe you take off front and back some have holes for specific things. I would also recommend getting a hardware kit as well...
Check all the connections to the starter and check the fuses. Toyota starters have contacts inside the starter solenoid. Those contacts are copper and get burned from the arching. Start there. As far as the engine stalling it maybe fuel related or your alternator may be failing as well.
Also...
Ok you Toyota fanatics, I have a fun one for ya.
We have an 86 Toyota Pickup at work. We are replacing the head gasket and rebuilding the head. Well we got to talking about the differences between the 20R, 22R and the 22RE (besides the fuel injection and the carburetor). I've heard of people...
The windsheild trim does have a tendency to leak. I had my windsheild replaced and had all the gasket material or whatever replaced leak solved.
You might also check the intake for air underneathe the windsheild. There is supposed to be drain holes for the water but after 27 years they...
You want to put a light layer of grease on the pressure plate fingers where the throw out bearing contacts it. Don't a lot on there just a thin layer on it. If you dont put any grease on the pressure plate, the bearing face will wear faster and might not engage correctly. What I do is take a...
I would go for some adjustable shocks. I know that Rancho makes a kit that mounts inside the cab. Prolly going to pricey but it will give you the ability to adjust for the roads.
After I rebuilt my engine I had a bearing fail on the #1 piston. It started as a vibration. The vibration got steadily worse. I pulled my pan and found copper shavings in the pan. Luckily I found it before it killed the motor. At least if he doesn't find anything he can eliminate internal failure.
Load up the alternator, by turning on headlights, fan to high and radio on. Test the voltage at the battery and see if there is any difference from when you tested it before. I've seen a lot of alternators that work great when they're sitting in my bay unloaded, but when I put a load on the...
Vibration that is tied to engine RPM would make me think it's internal. Like you broke a rod or something like that. I would pull the oil pan and see if you can see anything. If you find debris, you find the issue.
The first thing I would do is look at the track the window slides in, there maybe something obstructing the glass or the it might just be dirty. Second, (you'll need to pull the door panel for this one) get a wiring diagram for the window motor, switch and everything involved with the power...
Found an ad on craigslist for a set of Toyota axles. They're out of an 85 4runner. My question is, can you put the third fromthe rear end into a rear axle out of an 87 axle to get the wider rear end to match the front after the conversion to vented rotors. Will it fit?
The axles on...
The first thing I could say is check to make sure you have the wires on the cap in the right places, not trying to be rude I have done this and the guy who helped me build my motor (30+ yrs in an auto shop) did it when we were putting the motor back in.
Second, you said you have sea foam in...
Well I was finally able to hook up with the guy with the topper. I went and picked it up yesterday. The crack is pretty minimal and my work has a body shop that they said they can repair it pretty easily.
I'm actually planning on doing what is in the pics. I wanted a full coverage top. I...
I got the top. Figured it was free and went for it. The crack is pretty minimal and I've decided to go a different route when I chop it up. The crack won't be a problem. It will be cut out.
After searching for months to find another top for my 4runner (want to make a half top out of it). I found one for free......well here's the catch, it has a crack in it. The poster said it's structural integrity is intact. Has glass still in it and all rubber intact. My question is, is it...
I'm getting ready to install an SR5 gauge cluster in my 85 4Runner. Does anyone know of a thread that shows how it's done? I did a search and didn't really find anything. The link on the FAQ isn't working. Thanks.
