    CA Smog frustration.

X2 on the above, but I will add was it warmed up completely and was it allowed to rest before the test was done. The cats for 60's are notorious for taking a long time to get to temp and will cool quickly. And idling is not enough to keep it at temp. I have been close before and took it back...

Saddly I must sell, need the $. Details are as follows: 203,371 mi Exhaust mani gasket bad due to rushed 'on the road' replacement that failed. Transmission is in rough shape, noisey. It works fine but is annoying. Has been like that since I bought it and hasn't gotten worse. I was waiting to...

    Starter symptoms

When I had a failing starter my conclusion based on info here and Cdan, was the oem was the best option. 20 yrs is a pretty good run. I did the rebuild following the instructions in the sticky mentioned before. Worked like a charm. The rebuild is very easy and a one day project. I also, later...

California residents, SMOG HELP!! just barley failed the Idle

With my 62 and my current 60, the number one issue is cat temp. As mentioned above get it good and hot! The cat that is , they take a while to get there and they can cool off pretty quick. The mechanic I use when I can showed me the difference once and it was dramatic. Do your investigations of...

1982 FJ60 rear lap belts question...

Search around a bit and there are a few instals of rear belts, including one by me. But one of the issues you need to sleuth out is whether or not the hole in your rear seat pillar is threaded or not. There is more than likely a little easy fab work involved no matter what you use for belts...

    Is this worth it?

Personally I have had several positive dealings with cruiserparts. I have also heard no negatives. Parts wise and labor Kurtis is right the $ figure is close. I don't feel responsible for recouping others cost when buying used tho. A 5spd goes for over 2k new, and used prices vary, and it was...

    Is this worth it?

I believe no US sold fj came factory with the 5speed manual. It was probably added at time of engine swap. But I could be wrong. Price is not low, worth is up to the buyer. 10k for a 25 yr old vehicle is hard for me but not so with others.

    FJ-60 Air Cleaner gaskets.....

FYI, You can mask off the gaskets that are glued on just like you would for a paint job. I have done this for many powder coating jobs.

Redoing brake setup on a big fast 60. What combo is best?

With four runner calipers and stock master I found the pedal to feel way too soft for my taste. It stopped fine but.... With the new t100 master all is right with the world. Check the faq sticky points out the fact that there are several bowl types. Some wire up easier than others. I also...

Do you mind if I ask what constitutes a "good deal?" I am shopping for one but most prices are a little out of reach. Just curious.

    A/C, R12, Freeze 12, New Compressor Q's.

If you switch from R12 to modern goo, the oils are not compatible and they combined can gum up your compressor and blow it. Stick with the R12 if you have/can afford it. The main reason I would recommend a pro is disposal of the old R12. The stuff is BAD for the atmosphere. (besides illegal to...

    arrr!!! Why wont this work!!!

Your test welds are on the 18g yes? I assume the metal from the car is the side blowing out. The direction you are pointing is the where the heat is focused. If you are having success with the new metal, start on that side and draw the puddle towards the other. The seam also needs to be TIGHT...

how old is the fluid? and have you ever boiled it? once the fluid gets above a certain temp it loses its effectiveness.

    83 FJ60 Build up thread

I know it has been said but the amount and quality of work you are doing (while learning as you go!) is very admireable(sp?).
