RT help needed on Tcase problem

My Tcase went out a few months ago and i finally pulled the trigger on a salvage replacement. Job seemed simple enough to do myself, felt like everything lined up perfectly and didnt anticipate any issues. However once i got everything put together i have no power and gears are grinding going...

    Overland photo shoot

Hey everyone, my name is Matt, and I'm a Land Cruiser-aholic. Now, with the introduction out of the way, I have a request for anyone out there who has an awesome looking overlander in Utah. The company I work for (Davidson Defense in Orem, UT) is wanting to do a lifestyle photo shoot with an...

DIY Gullwing Windows + Parts List

Wouldn't plexiglass work and be easier to work with? I think 1/4" would be thick enough to keep them from being floppy.

Builds Broski's Adventure Rig build thread

I vote for a Speedi-Sleeve. I've used them before and they work fine if installed correctly.

    Suspension Options

I'll play devil's advocate on the body mount question. I run 33s on stock coils and new stock shocks. I have a 1" body lift, no flares, and 10.5" wide skinny tires. It doesn't rub anywhere under full flex. I am planning on going with the dual rate OME stock height springs soon.

80 series vs 100 series aka Loud vs Quiet

I think he meant 80mil and 150mil (millionths of an inch, rather than millimeters). That's about what I used. I used Noico products. I covered the following areas with a layer of butyl, then a layer of closed cell foam: wheel wells, floors, entire inside firewall, and the inside of all doors. I...

    What alternator/bracket do I have?

Looks like the replacement is a 90 amp unit. The external cooling fan on the old one is indicative of an 80 amp unit. You have a few options. You can grind/modify the 90 amp unit on one of the mounting ears to make it fit (this is what I did). You can order the OEM motor mount that is designed...

Frozen power steering on my '91

I figured I'd eventually need to put those back in. I just really wasn't looking forward to buying new seals and doing the job again. I was just thrown by the fact that it ONLY happens when it's below freezing outside. Once the truck is warm, there are no issues at all with the steering. Well...

Frozen power steering on my '91

First some background. I have had a power steering gear box leak on my '91 3FE for quite a while. It got bad enough that I finally decided to rebuild the steering gear box to fix the leak. After I finished the rebuild and filled the system with new ATF (Dex3) I started to have a weird issue...

    1991 Blower Motor question

I'm also curious. I ruined my original blower motor trying to disassemble it. I ordered a used one from ebay and it is SO noisy. I am hoping there is a decent solution because it is annoyingly noisy now.

    CDL Not Working ('91)

I sometimes wonder if people don't update threads like this because the fix ends up being so embarrassingly simple. Well, for the sake of posterity and anyone else with a similar issue, here was my answer. I pulled the dash apart a little bit to trace wires, and I noticed the wire colors going...

I'd just advance it until it starts to ping then back it off a bit.

Builds The Trail Snail Build | Above Average Overlandish

Take lots of pictures! I'm going down this road come springtime. I already have all of Broski's pictures of the process saved. Any tips, tricks, or gotchas would be great (i.e. what welder and settings you end up using). Good stuff!

    CDL Not Working ('91)

I think I have tracked the problem down to the IH1 harness. I have checked the plugs, grounds, & wiring in the left side kick panel and nothing seems amiss. However, there is also wiring in the circuit (all the wires that go to or come from the CDL actuator motor, actually) that goes through the...

    CDL Not Working ('91)

I stand corrected. Somehow I had a nagging feeling that what I wrote wasn't quite right. I mistook the manual locking capability in lo for hi. My mistake. Nonetheless, the Pin 7 mod was completed and the sensor on the tcase remains plugged in.

    CDL Not Working ('91)

I will recheck all ground points, but I'm 90% sure they are all there. Also, '91-'92 did come with a CDL switch OEM, but it only allows you to manually override the diff lock in 4lo. You can't engage the CDL in hi range regardless of switch position unless you do the pin 7 mod. The dash light...

    CDL Not Working ('91)

I am trying to get my center differential lock working after some work on my dash. Background is that it's a '91 80-series with the pin-7 mod done. It was functional before I did the work. I removed the dash to apply sound deadening to the firewall. I reassembled everything and now the diff lock...

U-Joints............what are these things made of....?

Vice, brass hammer, grease gun, punch, and grinder (preferably 7") is all you need to do a good job. Plenty of Youtube videos on the process (I prefer the crotchety old Aussie farmer videos). Not too bad.

3FE engine "wobbling" or "pulsating" - Any ideas?

Awesome to hear! Sometimes it's the simple stuff that is the culprit. Sometimes it's so simple it just doesn't show up on your radar (plenty of personal "oops!" experiences of my own). Valve adjustment should have it purring like a kitten with a chronic hard liquor and tobacco problem (3FE's...
