End of an era... thank you for all your help!

I like the idea of an 80 series diesel converted to LHD. But that will have to wait. Sorry I didn't update you guys sooner. I sold my BJ60 back in early October, and got my minivan... a 1998 Ford Windstar. Yeah, there's a step in the right direction... No comments on the minivan...

End of an era... thank you for all your help!

Ah, I see. That is not good news then. There are going to a be a lot of very unhappy people in Canada then! I haven't been up on the RHD news lately, thanks for filling me in. You're right, I might have to get a USA Cruiser and swap in a diesel. Given a choice, I'd get a nice rust free 80 series...

End of an era... thank you for all your help!

Oh, I didn't know that RHD was banned in Quebec... I've seen some RHD Nissan Skylines and a few other JDM sports cars around. They must have been imported before the law was passed then. I guess my only hope would be to buy one that is already imported and registered. Or, look for a nice US Land...

End of an era... thank you for all your help!

It's been a tough decision that I've struggled with for about a year, but I've decided to sell my 1984 BJ60. Thank you to all of you here for your help and support. I know I haven't been that active on Mud lately, but I really do appreciate all the help and interesting conversations we've had in...

For Sale  1984 BJ60 in Montreal, 25+ yrs old, yes it's a 5 speed diesel!

Very tough decision, but I have decided to sell my BJ60... just listed it on eBay and may also put it up on Craigslist, Kijiji and Hemmings Motor News. For now, it's just listed here on Mud and and on eBay. Here's a link to the auction and here's the VERY lengthy ad I wrote: Whoever ends up...

    Best Mods under $50...

Is that bondo? I've never used it on doors or hoods or any panel that is large and potentially flexible. The slamming alone when you close it could crack the bondo... or so I've heard. I've either left it alone, or used fiberglass filler or just fiberglass resin. Maybe that's what you used - I...

Results of 600 km roadtrip in BJ60 & diesel costs

Thanks bro! It was great to be able to take the BJ60 on a semi-long road trip. It's the longest single trip I've taken it on so far. The Cruiser will be parked until Tuesday until it's time for me to head back to Barrie. You're right, so far the coolant and oil issues don't seem to severe. I...

Results of 600 km roadtrip in BJ60 & diesel costs

That's good to hear... I was getting worried about the oil and coolant. As long as it's nothing serious, I'll be happy. Ideally, no leaks would be great, but so far, so good. As for fuel economy, I need to convert to MPG. But, even without doing that, my fuel consumption does seem a bit high...

Results of 600 km roadtrip in BJ60 & diesel costs

For those of you who have been following my challenges and concerns with my BJ60, here's an update. Two actually. First, I took the BJ60 on an 80 km round trip from Barrie to Wasaga Beach and back on the weekend. It was fine. Absolutely NO leaks of any sort after parking when arriving there or...

toyota diesel engine oil leaks - don't be shy...

Update on mine... a few days ago I took my BJ60 on a 40 km drive, when parked it didn't leak a drop of anything. Yesterday I took it on a 600 km drive to Montreal and there were 4 small oil spots on the ground after parking. Not wanting to hijack this thread, I'll post some details and questions...

My BJ60 is possessed! Intermittent leaks, but clutch cyl OK, 1200 km road test nxt wk

Thanks, I'll do that. I've missed several good opportunities already to try that. The good news is, since I've come back and been driving the BJ60 this last week, I haven't seen any significant coolant leaks, if any. There was one night where I went on the highway at about 100 km/hr for about 10...

My BJ60 is possessed! Intermittent leaks, but clutch cyl OK, 1200 km road test nxt wk

Thanks John, I'll give that a try. What's the best way to let it get well warmed up and pressurized? Some stop and go traffic for a half hour or maybe an hour highway drive? The rad looks not too old, and it appears dry, as do the hoses. I'll re-check them though, and especially the water pump.

Finally! Some updates on small lift, upgrades, etc

Yep, that's pretty much the way it is... I was all ready to drive the BJ60 out west. Got the suspension upgraded, fixed a bunch of leaks, some other things, put in a new clutch, stereo, alarm, etc. I was all ready to go, when a couple of days before I was to leave, the alternator blew up. OK...

toyota diesel engine oil leaks - don't be shy...

Hmmm... maybe my BJ60's oil leak isn't so unique after all then! I thought it was possessed. Sometimes it leaks, sometimes it doesn't. 3B with 332,000 kms. Just changed rear main oil seal plus a bunch of others (but not head gasket). Sometimes leaks coolant and possibly transfer case oil too...

Finally! Some updates on small lift, upgrades, etc

No... same BJ60. I did all that work on it just prior to the originally anticipated departure out west in October last year. Then I had the alternator issues and ended up leaving without the BJ60. I left the truck with my parents, and was really fed up with it, even signed over the registration...

My BJ60 is possessed! Intermittent leaks, but clutch cyl OK, 1200 km road test nxt wk

Just an update on my 1984 BJ60. I'm back in Ontario now and have been driving my Cruiser for a week. In all, about 250 (mostly city) kilometers. The good news: the clutch slave cylinder seems OK. I know it will need to be replaced eventually, but it may last for a while. The bad (?) news... the...

Finally! Some updates on small lift, upgrades, etc

Well, it seems like forever since I've posted anything in the 60 series forum. Thought some of you might be interested in hearing/seeing where my 1984 BJ60 is at. Although I was on a budget, as usual, more time, effort and money went into it than anticipated. But, still a budget (ghetto?)...

Assessing BJ60 for road trip thru USA - 2 part question

When I was still living in Ontario, I bought some backing plates from him and it was still quite reasonable... seems to me it cost about $35 and they came in about 3 or 4 days. It might be a bit longer and cost a bit more, but based on what I paid last time, it wasn't that bad. I just want to be...
