I’ve been searching through lot of threads and lots of other sites that have the OEM aluminum wheels, but have not found anyone calling out what the backspacing is supposed to be. I see some wheels with a 4.5” backspacing called out as being guaranteed to fit my ‘93 FZJ80.
I have four of the...
I found it! It is the crimped joint where the radiator core is attached to the bottom tank, and on the outboard (away from the engine, with no hoses) side. I took the opportunity to purchase a bore scope (16ft, way longer than I needed for this application) and inspected the front and rear of...
Good points! I need to remove some more things to have full visibility. I can see the majority of the fins on each side of the radiator, but not the remainder of the edges. Replacement radiator is not a true OEM part, no. I'll need to check again for the petcock and continue troubleshooting...
I'll probably pull the plugs first and go from there. I did only recently replace them to prepare to pass CO emissions testing, but they should show some clear indication of HG failure. Thanks @BILT4ME!
I can't remember how long it ran after the temp light came on but before the engine shut itself off. I'm definitely worried that I'm looking at another HG replacement, so I'll keep working through troubleshooting incrementally. Thanks for the advice!
It's been so long I can't precisely recall, but I know I followed the write-ups here. It was only about a year after I got the beast. We're now 13 years post HG replacement.
So, I've done plenty of work on my '93 FZJ80, including but not limited to rebuilding the head/HG, replacing the PHH, rebuilding the front axle x2, rebuilding the rear axle, and plenty of other things. Earlier this year I went to help shovel snow at my church, and on my way home my cruiser...
I agree, it should never blow with normal conditions. I took the hose off of the reservoir, and the one off of the gearbox, and blew air through the cooler. It did not seem like there was a restriction so I put them back on and refilled the system. Everything seems to be working fine again. I am...
After landing on my rear DS on a trail, my pinion seal was shot. It looked a lot like your initial pictures after the three-hour drive home. Check the oil level, disconnect the rear of the shaft from the rear diff, and see how much play is in that pinion shaft. If it doesn't feel like there is...
I have noticed that it still steers easily on gentle curves, changing direction by 15 - 30 degrees our so. It is hard to make sharp turns, like a 90+ degree turn. I should be able to do some troubleshooting this week or weekend. Thank you all for your ideas! If anyone else has ideas, keep them...
Flank is spot-on above. Test your vehicle's abilities each time you start driving in the snow. The best rule of thumb is this: rapid changes in speed and/or direction, of substantial magnitude or degree, are bad on anything but a dry road. This has saved my butt many times.
As stated in...
I had not thought of getting my driveshaft re-tubed. I've had pretty bad vibration at 35-45 mph since the summer of '07 and running French Creek here in CO.
