I have, left over from when I had a 40, a left and right side as well two roofs for an FJ40 hard top. No doors or flip up back window. The sides are virtually rust free. The rain gutters have been removed from both roofs as they were rotted out. Glass while removed is in good condition.
Any...
no codes in the ECU, I swapped the ECU for a knowen good one....that was the trick. Turns out I had a bad water leak that must have caused the ECU to fail. The leak was at the fire wall, where the engine harness passes through, in heavy down poors water would travel down the harness and drip on...
Yes my truck has the EFI Resistor, FPR is about a year old, OEM Toyota. I can't see how the damper could cause this issue, later 22RE's did not even have one.
If the ECU does not see an RPM signal from the ignitor it will it fire the injectors. The injectors are powered all the time, the ECU...
I have an 86' 4 Runner with a 22RE, I parked it for about a month, the next time I fired it up it started as usual with no indicated issues, then cut off and would not restart. Just befor it cut off there was an indication of the engine starving fir fuel.
Ive checked all the usual causes yet...
Yep the design is without a doubt 20+ years! however in that time the advancements made have not been as big as a 22RE to the 3rz. The 3rz is a four valve twin overhead cam OBDII engine. Yes in the past 20 years there have been advancements in ECU's, the biggest being 16 to 32 bit, however I...
It's one of those parts I never thought I'd need so I didn't think of keeping it in a safe place. With the older 22RE Engine sensor connectors loosing the fight with time I'm really thinking very hard at a 3rz conversion. The 22RE is a great work horse but the old school engine management...
Well LC Engineering come through, 10 bucks shipped. The closest junkyard is over an hour from me, not to mention I just did not have the time to rummage through a pick and pull and risk not finding what I need.
I have an 86' 4Runner, some time ago I did a throttle body swap from the old angled down throttle body to the late straight throttle body. Part of the swap is to change out the TPS operating paw as the later sensors are different, I did so. Now on to my problem, I'm now gong back to the late...
So what are your plans as far as the engine goes? I seem to remember the 3.4 may have some fitment issues with the hood. The 22re, while not a speed demon is a great engine and can be made to make more power. My rebuilt 22re gives me 19mpg around town and 20-22 on the highway. I can easily...
Please do yourself and your engine a favor and read over either a Toyota factory service manual or a Hanes/chitons manual. Replacing a crankshaft is not just a matter of unbolting the mains and rod caps, there are clearances to check, bearings to replace, specific torque values to meat etc...
So the big issue will be the plugs on your 86' engine harness will not match the sensors on the newer engine. Do yourself a HUGE favor and research if the Later engine harness will work with your 86' ECU. By now your old harness is a bit worn, you may benefit from a swap-out. I've changed two...
So I've not had any issues lately, I wonder would water in the fuel tank cause theses issues?
KLF, the exhaust looks good as do the plugs, 20mpg around town and 21-22 on the highway.
I'm leaning towards a AFM and or TPS issues also the fact that it is an 86' 4Runner with an old worked over...
Sorry been real busy....
Thanks for the suggestions, this problem or perhaps a new one, is getting worse, at times that is. Recently while under a load the engine will miss/stutter with some exhaust popping, let off the accelerator and problem is gone, back on stutter and popping, after a bit...
My Runner seems to have developed a miss at part throttle, say 2k RPM's, never under a load, mainly while maintaining speed, say 30 mph in 3rd gear. Just looking for a place to start.
86 4Runner 22RE manual trans.
The Toyota Factory Service Manual (FSM) is your best friend during this process.
From what I remember it looks right, but really you should verify based off of what the FSM says.
