Convince me to buy an 80 in 2023 for my family of 7.

100 seems to be the direction I'm going. I've found a few around for ~$11-19k. We can realistically get $19-20k out of the Highlander.

Dingdingding! Except the Honda is a 49cc scooter. But otherwise yes. I can realistically get $19-20k on trade-in for the Highlander. I don't know what a diesel JDM 80 is going for these days, but I wouldn't turn my nose up if the opportunity arose...

No, no. You're supposed to store the pointy objects on the dashboard, right above the airbag where they can be deflected.

I remember 14 or 15 years ago, one of the members here drove headfirst into some sort of concrete barrier or something at like 50-70MPH. I forget the exact details. But his truck was absolutely mangled, it's a miracle he even survived. I also was going to point out the toothpick-like A-pillars...

I've owned 10 vehicles over the last 13 years. I can say with a certainty that the four Toyotas I've owned have been more reliable and better built than anything else I've owned.

No one is driving any time soon. This lady was happy with her clapped-out single cab 2WD *manual* Tacoma that her ex-husband sold out from under her. As long as things are mechanically sound, she doesn't give two s***s about its appearance.

Honestly, were it not for the offroading capability requirement, our Sienna already does all of that (except the horse trailer - but I only tow a few thousand pounds every once in a while anyway). I'm not super concerned about cargo space if I'm being totally honest. I've actually looked this...

A 3/4 ton Suburban would be fun. Probably one of the only vehicles I'd consider that's not a Toyota.

I saw the one at the Heritage Museum a couple years ago. Pretty sweet. Only 4 seats though. I can just throw the rest in the back and strap one to the roof.

AWD Siennas are hard to find with transfer cases that aren't failing. I test drove a couple before I bought mine (2WD second gen) and they all made expensive noises.

Fair point. Yes, we have a minivan already that handles kids and roadtrips. Yeah I've been thinking about Sequoias as well. The late first-gen models appeal to me because I happen to really like the style, and also 2UZ power.

Does nobody read signatures anymore? I have three vehicles listed. One of them is a dedicated family hauler/roadtrip machine, and it's not the Highlander.

I have no problem squeezing my whole family in the Highlander. It's just really inconvenient and there's practically zero cargo space if we decided to roadtrip in that vs our Sienna. We only really use the Highlander for commuting (me), and occasional trips up the local canyon and its trail...

Nah. Toyota or die. I'm never owning American ever again, and I won't even consider German (unless it's a 40 year old 240D).

They're packed even tighter in the Highlander vs an 80. But we already have a Sienna for family hauling and roadtrips, so we're not really losing any capacity by trading the Highlander. I grew up in an 80 with three other siblings, it wasn't terrible.

That's how it is in our Sienna right now, three oldest are in the back (one with booster) and the two big carseats are in the middle row, with one seat removed to make third row access easier.

Ayyyyyyyyy long time no see! Yeah if I end up getting a cruiser, it'll probably be a 100 or something. Mostly because of the 60/40 middle row.
