    Show off your tools!

Been looking for a tire changer for years and finally picked up this one. Came from small city maintenance shop and supposedly minimally used before they outsourced their tire work. Everything seems to work as it should and broke down a couple tires/rims today.

    Hydraulic Wire and Cable Crimper

I have both of these. They work ok but both leak and you need 3 hands to use (2 to squeeze and 1 to hold wire). Not sure of value of AWG marked dies. Different terminals have different thicknesses.

I finally get the shop I have wanted for too long

I've got several sets of wheel dollies including a set like shown that were free with a car I bought. They work ok with light or stripped down vehicles but @Michael B is right that they don't work well with much weight on them. Bought a much more expensive set years ago and they are better but I...

Are those newer Quick Chain-adjustment features on chainsaws OK?

I bought a 20V Dewalt chainsaw specifically to cut small stumps at ground level. It has the toolless chain adjustment and has worked great despite cutting in the dirt. Intent was to sacrifice the saw but it's still going strong after 3 new chains.

    Please critique my garage plans

Like others, I think you're find that to be a pretty narrow space w/o room to do much more than park a couple of small cars. And you're going to lose some of that width to wall thickness.

This is Alabama - folks make houses out of less than that!

Projecting, tinkering, fiddle-farting around: whatcha building?

Latest distraction from what I should be working on - picked up 2 Champion R40 15hp compressors for cheap from city auction. Newer one supposedly runs fine but had bad oil leak. Turned out to be leaking from low oil shut-down switch which was installed wrong. Will try to run it this weekend...

Any Coats tire balancer gurus in the house?

    Think I got it now!

Any Coats tire balancer gurus in the house?

No VFD and no obvious contactor. I tinkered with it some more and it seems to be working on 3ph. Doesn't spin nearly as fast/long as I would have expected but a friend says looks right based on his experience. Need to get some weights to test it. 1.5hp "direct drive"motor if that means...

Any Coats tire balancer gurus in the house?

Picked up this 1055 balancer and trying to get figured out. Machine is labeled single phase but motor plate says 3 phase. I guess motor could have been changed at some point but that seems unlikely given where it came from. Initially wired single and it powers up/will spin tire if you get it...

    Any Vise Collectors Here?

    Thanks, good to know.

    Any Vise Collectors Here?

State of Alabama surplus. No description and only a couple of fuzzy pics. Tried to scale off what looked like a sheet of 8.5x11 paper in the pics and thought it might have 8" jaws but still pleased. Assume it's probably a newer production vise.

    Any Vise Collectors Here?

I'm not a collector (although it dawns on me they're starting to accumulate) but I do keep my eyes open for larger vises. Just picked up this Columbian 205-M2 from state surplus auction. Dirty but paint is intact and jaws look perfect so thinking it might have never seen any use.

What's a 1/4" impact driver good for? (Milwaukee)

Notice how Milwaukee doesn't say much about the tightening torque of any of their impact wrenches but promotes the "nut busting torque?" Doubt the M12 1/2" impact would make 100lbs tightening and if it did it wouldn't last long. If you need a 1/2" get one of the 18v impacts. I've recently switch...

Projecting, tinkering, fiddle-farting around: whatcha building?

Bought this plate from SWAG Off Road years ago and finally got around to setting up my old portaband. Original plan was to do a square tube frame but got to looking at some scrap plywood and knocked out this base today. Thinking it might be useful as a bench top saw for small/quick cuts. At...

    Vehicle Lifts: 2-post, 4-post, etc

There were some questions previously about powering the line laser for centering vehicles in two-post lifts. They typically come with a 5V wall plug adapter but I was curious about using battery power to save another adapter/cord to deal with. Grabbed the cheapest one I could find off ebay for...

What's a 1/4" impact driver good for? (Milwaukee)

I've got a bunch of cordless M12/18 Milwaukee stuff but don't care for the ergonomics of the M12 drivers, etc. The M12 3/8 ratchet, 3/8 impact ratchet, dremel, soldering iron, oscillating saw, etc are fine but the 1/4" pistol grip stuff just doesn't feel right in my hand. I'll keep my old Dewalt...
