    GX470 front seat uncomfortable

Thanks Tahoe for the useful advice based on your own experience. You've given me a solid path forward for fixing the front seat. I like the grab bar exit tip to prevent the bolster in the future. As you suggest, we have to take care of our back and hip nerves etc. Cheers.

    GX470 front seat uncomfortable

p.s. It's "funny" but about 15 years ago I drove a rather spartan Land Rover 110 many many hours and about 1500 miles on a trip (half of which on gravel) and don't recall such leg issues. Mind you, I was also 15 years younger! But the Land Rover basically had a fixed seat with a flat slab of...

    GX470 front seat uncomfortable

Good point Half K! Indeed, as one ages all kinds of aches and pains prop up. And this could be just one more reason to re-adopt a more regular regimen of stretching and other simple exercices every day. The bolster of the seat may still need to be addressed, but as you suggest, some work on my...

    GX470 front seat uncomfortable

Thanks Kyle for pointing me in this direction. I'll take it to a shop and see what they say.

    GX470 front seat uncomfortable

Yes I can see there is some wear on the left side bolster because of in and out. Some surface cracking on the leather too. That's the impression I get, that the seat feels a bit slanted toward the door because of that worn bolster. Maybe this is putting undue strain on my right hip because of...

    GX470 front seat uncomfortable

I bought a 2004 GX last summer and am driving it more this year. Unfortunately, on highway runs the seat becomes uncomfortable for me after 30 minutes or so. My right hip goes numb and starts hurting, and the pain carries down the outside of my leg. I've tried different seating positions (up...

    Where is my coolant going?

Now that the weather is getting cold up here, I'll drive the GX out of the garage one evening and let it idle in the driveway. In cold weather, small coolant leaks at hoses and elbows etc usually show up better. I remember a coolant loss on a Toyota Cressida (inline 6) that I bought a few...

    Dash Recall GX470

You (we) are out of luck in Canada. I asked my dealer about it and they looked at me as if I had landed from Mars "dash crack recall? never heard of it, would be very expensive for you to replace..." I contacted Lexus Canada and they said that american and canadian lexus's are "so completely...

    Where is my coolant going?

I finally looked at that hose and can't tell if anything is leaking out onto the frame. There is some surface rust on the frame but not only at that spot. I attached a 6" length of clear plastic hose to the drain hose, capped it at the end, and will observe from time to time to see if anything...

    Where is my coolant going?

I had my rad and two main hoses replaced, will monitor and see if coolant level stabilizes. At least I know the radiator and upper/lower hoses are not the source of the leak now (if there is still one) and that critical part of the engine has been baselined. I went with a DENSO radiator.

    Toyo tire options on GX?

Thanks for the pics of the AT2s on your GX. I probably won't be able to get the size to fit, but part of me would love to put Toyo M-55's on my GX, the tires used by logging and hydro companies to drive in the bush and gravel roads, tough as nails. Sing a bit on the highway, which is why I'm...

    Radiator Replacement

Thanks Cole, much appreciated. I'm replacing the rad hoses but not the flex transmission lines at this point. Ok, sounds good.

    Radiator Replacement

Just to clarify, since I'm going to be doing this job shortly as well: you keep the trans cooler lines, and the lower rad hose, attached to the rad and yank them out with the rad?? So I assume you detach them from the other end? Not sure why that's easier than detaching them at the rad and...

    05 GX470 - Add a Transmission Dipstick?

I have to replace my pan because of rusting bolts which caused the rim to rust in a spot, causing a leak. Obviously, a dipstick would have been nice to monitor level (and occasionally topping up) until I get around to replacing the pan (which will be done shortly). It's not like these...

    Where is my coolant going?

The mechanic pressure-tested the cooling system when the engine was warm and no leak was revealed. He then left the system pressure-tested overnight and again no leak. He says he's pretty confident there isn't a head gasket issue. So where the coolant is going remains a bit of a mystery for now...

    Where is my coolant going?

Thanks, I'll check that when I get the truck back from the mechanic (he has to replace a sticking caliper in the front).

    Where is my coolant going?

The overflow bottle was empty when I bought it (silly me for not looking at it!). My mechanic suggested the same thing, air working its way out. So maybe you've got a point there. I haven't driven it much since buying it, just a couple of freeway runs and driving around town, until I can get...

    Where is my coolant going?

2004 GX470 2UZFE 120,000 miles, purchased about 3 months ago. Timing belt and water pump replaced 4 years ago. Original rad and hoses as far as I can tell. The coolant level in the overflow tank is dropping gradually. I noticed it was low after I bought the truck, I topped it up a few times...

    Builds The Bare Minimum GX470

Yeah rust's a bitch, but what can you do when you live up in these parts? As I said, there are several companies that have sprung up just to address this issue, providing annual rust-proofing treatment to the undercarriage and body cavities (inside doors, side panels, etc.). I swear by these...

    Builds The Bare Minimum GX470

p.s. Try to brush and get a good amount of FLuid Film on the outside and inside of that frame around the rad (the one with the tow hooks attached to it). I've seen some 4Runners and GX's that had very serious rust going on there, rotted holes etc., and that wouldn't be fun nor cheap to repair...
