I had the same issue with mine a few years back. I have a 79 with air. The radiator shop was balking on a recore and wantet to order one for me. When it came in it was about an inch and a half short of reaching across the support. I cut a piece of 2"x1/8" steel the height of the radiator and...
you know cruiserparts.net has those for 45.00. I had them ship me four for 180.00 plus 60.00 freight for all four. I'm in louisiana and they are in new hampshire.
I think you have to have it at least shaved to fit those thrust washers in. or maybe its that you have to shave the later crank to fit the earlier thrust bearing in. I have been thru this before and but don't remember for sure. I do know that I had to have the thrust journal on the crank in my...
I believe that the crank set up changed in 85 so you need to make sure if you want to use your crank. The 85 -87 2f's have some center thrust washers that arent on 79 thru 84.
Hey Rice,
Are your OME springs light or heavy? How many springs in the pack? Just wondering about the harsh ride because I was about to change to OME. I found that the 1.5 shackles made my pinacles ride a little smoother. I guess it gives them more room to move horizontally.
If it makes you feel any better I'm having the exact same issues with my 60. I have changed a boat load of masters and slaves on several makes over the years and have never had this kind of trouble. I posted abot it a month or so ago and decided it was the slave and bought one from toyota but...
I usually go cheap so I put on a pinacle lift from JTO. I got it with anti-inversion shackles, greasable pins, u bolts, shocks, springs and everything. It was supposed to be a 2" lift but with the anti inversion shackles its closer to 3.5. It took a little tweaking to get it level but it looks...
usually a leaky rear main seal doesn't soak the clutch lining. the flywheel will sling it out in front of the clutch and it will drip from the inspection cover unless of course it is a huge leak. The front trany seal is the one that will soak your clutch. Topping off the fluids in the trany and...
I usually work on my cruisers myself but I do have a mechanic that works for me a couple of days a week. He does mostly heavy equipment repair and maintainence for me but did work for a toyota dealer at one point. When I had trouble with it I punted it to him. He and his helper struggled with...
my 84 sat with the motor pulled for about a year. when I finally put it back together, the slave cyl blew after about 30 miles. I bought a new one but just never could seem to get it bled right so I replaced the master as well. I can pump the pedal 3 times and it works fine as long as I dont...
I bought a set of 4 from cruiserparts.net. One had some serious pitting but I blasted them and did a skim coat of filler and they look great. They were 40 each + 60 to ship all 4 to ship to louisiana. I also bought 5 new hubcaps for 20.00 ea.
Is there any one else other than spectre that sells both the saginaw p/s pump bracket and the smog pump eliminator. I thought there was someone on this board who made these. I already have the ps box mount but 200 seems high for the smog eliminator. I may just make one myself. any ideas?
I put a tuffy stereo console in my 40 a few months ago and robbed the blaupunkt out of my 60. The blaupunkt doesn't do well at that angle. It is picky about how the cd is inserted and is hypersensitive to any minor bump in the road. What do you guys recomend?
correct me if i'm wrong but the factory wheel for all 40's in the u.s. was a 15x5.5 steel painted gray with a chrome hub cap until 1980 when the went to a 15x6 spoke with white paint. the 16's were split rims and didn't ship over here.
I have 33/9.50 bfg at's on my 79 without power and have had 31/10.5's on it and it hasn't ever been hard to steer. Of course I am really really strong so I wouldn't know but my wife can drive it with no complaints. That is to say no complaints about the steering anyway.
I have the 33/9.50's...
I have 33x9.5's on fj 60 rims with a 2.5 lift. they don't rub at all but they are skinny. I think i'm going to put them on my 60 and get either 33x10.5 or 32x11.5's. The 60 series rims are 6" wide opposed to the 5.5 stock 40's. The one problem with the 33's is that my 79' has 3.70 gears and the...
Welding those seams can also change the temper of the steel causing it to become more brittle thus more likely to crack when flexing. So far I haven't seen many If any places that toyota knowingly tried to cut corners so there is probably a reason for the sealer.
