Ok, I have done a bit of searching on this and there doesn't appear to be much consensus. My 1996 FZJ80 only serves part time duty. It has 160k on it. I have noticed that when it sits for few weeks it will have a knock when I start it up. It will misfire like it is only running on 5...
Looking for a very good condition driver's side tail light for my 1996 FZJ80. No cracks, chips, scratches etc. Need it shipped to West Lafayette, Indiana, 47906.
Thanks,
Robert
I am looking to for a complete exhaust system (from the headers back) for my 1996 FZJ80. I went with a custom exhaust and hate it. Cats are finicky and I am too old for how it sounds. Let me know what you have! I am located in West Lafayette, IN (47906).
Thanks,
Robert
I guess I was wrong on the dates of death of my batteries.
Bought first one 09/2009, died and replaced on 04/2011.
Battery #2 died today.
So I am getting about 20 months out of them. According to my receipt, the warranty does NOT reset, so the original purchase date applies to 36 month...
Battery #3 crapped today. I had to check this thread to see how long it lasted. I guess I get a new battery every year out of the deal. I do not think it is worth it. The Cruiser must start when told.
I just finished this today. The hoses that tee off to the rear heater (from the main 5/8" hoses) are 1/2" ID. I did the same fix shown above that basically "jumpered" the tees together. I am going to replace the rear lines as some point, so this is a stop-gap measure for now.
Forgive me, as I am going to do this for a stop-gap measure until I replace the rear lines (cold here).
What size is the smaller hose that splits off to the rear heater as shown, not the 5/8" main hose?
Thanks
I am on my second one as well. It just flat crapped out after a year. Brought it in, got a new one, and the warranty was reset. Hopefully it will last?
The more I think about it, I think your first assessment is likely correct. That the contacts are not engaging fully and its is briefly losing contact, then getting it back again, cycling the starter on and off.
Not a screeching sound, I would say it would be similar to a flywheel missing a...
Hey George,
Thanks for your input. I think that grinding was a poor term to use. The starter is definitely skipping/cutting out/disengaging then reengaging. It doesn't seem like it has stopped turning, but rather, it will crank then it seems that the drive(gear) skips.

Hey all. Now that the POS Corolla is totaled, the 80 is back to DD status for a while (until I find the right E36 M3/4/5 :D).
Background info: 1996 FZJ80, 145k miles. Had for 5 years since 120k miles (yah, we only do about 4k miles a year). Dumped a ton of money into it, it is baselined up...
