Disc/Drum Double Pump Pedal Finally Solved

I wish I had read FJROSS’ post years ago. I have always struggled to get the brakes on my FJ40 adjusted and bleed correctly. I think up until now I have just been getting lucky after dumping loads of brake fluid through the system. Lucky, up until now… Several days ago I pulled off two of my...

    72 FJ40 Drum Brakes

I know this thread is old and you've probably worked all this out by now but here goes. I believe you are correct in your assumption that the placement of the left versus right handed threads is to simplify adjustment. If you visualize how the adjusters push the shoes against the drum they...

Wanted  Mini Truck DC (CV Joint) Driveshaft/Driveline

Looking for a front DC (CV Joint) drive shaft from a mini truck for the rear of my 1969 FJ40. Need flange holes at 56mm X 64mm. I believe the compatible years are late 78 through late 83.

Choosing The Right CV + DriveLine

I need replace the rear driveshaft in my FJ40 with one that includes a CV joint. I'm comfortable doing the modifications to the driveline myself. The PO did a SOA and didn't bother to get the angles right. I have been looking all over the forum but am still a little confused on the direction I...

    Can I put 64 3rd member w/lockright in 69?

The pinion that broke was subjected to several years of abuse and axle-wrap behind a 383 stroker and automatic transmission. Not too long ago I built a torque arm that eliminated the axle wrap. I imagine that the pinion was stressed and probably even cracked before I put the torque arm on. I...

    Can I put 64 3rd member w/lockright in 69?

That's interesting. Someone must have upgraded my axles at some point because when I put the locker in they were obviously fine spline. The pinion shaft definitely isn't though.

    Can I put 64 3rd member w/lockright in 69?

I'm running 35s. I thought 69s had all fine spline parts in the rear? Am I just missing the fact that they came with coarse spline pinions and there is a fine spline upgrade available?

    Can I put 64 3rd member w/lockright in 69?

I broke the rear pinion shaft in my 69 which has a lockright in it. I'm thinking about taking the whole 3rd member out of a 64, putting the lockright in it and using it in my 69. I heard that the 64 has coarse spline axles and the 69 is fine spline but that shouldn't matter because I'm using the...

    Fuse box location

fuse block location I'm not sure what the painless block looks like but here is where I put mine, up under the dash on the firewall, drivers side. It is just a generic block that you can get at Napa.

How to determine 3 speed or 4 speed transfer case gears?

Think I Figured it Out This is what the drain plug looks like: According the these pictures. My case is a 67'-69'. And according to this anything lower than 8/73' is a 3 speed. So correct me if I'm wrong. I have a 3 speed unless someone changed the gears out?

How to determine 3 speed or 4 speed transfer case gears?

Is there any easy way to tell if I have a 3 speed (2.313:1 low range) or a 4 speed (1.992:1 low range) transfer case? I suppose I could pull it out and count revolutions but I don't want to if there is something easier.

    SBC Water Pump Rotation

Thanks for the pic grant. My impeller is not that agressive, that's probably a high flow one right? The blades on my are curved the opposite way than the one in your pic. Maybe I do have a reverse flow one. my64: I'm not running a serpentine setup. miker: -What radiator are you...

    SBC Water Pump Rotation

Is the flange on the water pump different for serpentine pulleys? I don't know what the pump came out of - I didn't build the engine. Who knows where the PO got it. I guess I could just order a new pump to make sure but why spend the money.

    SBC Water Pump Rotation

Does anyone know how to identify a SBC water pump? How do I determine if it is designed for CCW or CW rotation? Can I look at the impeller? I can't keep the 383 stroker in my FJ40 cool enough and I am trying to eliminate all of the possibilites...

    Aluminum Radiator vs. Stock Radiator

19x31? How did you fit that in there? Can I see some pics? I am trying to get some ideas on fitting somthing bigger than the stock rad in my 69. It has a 383 and runs too hot (about 220 when it's 100 outside) with the stock rad tanks + 4 row core.

mini truck master cylinder with all drums

steve, Thanks for the reply. Im sure that the push rod coming out of the booster is adjusted properly (I used some modeling clay to check the clearance - .024 to .026"). So you think I should get rid of the mini truck master cylinder and try the 70-75 FJ40 master cyl.?

no brakes after mini booster/master install: need help

slickrock, I just tried upgrading to a booster dual circuit master cylinder on my 69 FJ40. I'm using the early 80s mini truck parts too. I have the same problem you described. You mentioned using a check valve if you want to keep the mini truck booster + drums. Do you have more info on...

mini truck master cylinder with all drums

I talked to a couple of people today who recommended using a 70-75 FJ40 master cylinder with my mini truck booster. Supposedly the 70-75 master cylinder is dual circuit and made for the FJ Drum setup. Does anybody know about using this combination?

mini truck master cylinder with all drums

What is the recommended master cylinder for a mini truck booster upgrade on an older FJ40 will drums on all 4? I looked all over the forum but all I see is stuff for those who have already have disks on at least one end. I just got done installing a early 80s mini truck booster and master...
