Ophir would be a good one with some great alpine views and may be a little more "friendly" than Imogene. Not that Imogene is difficult but there is some exposure.

Owl creek pass is a lot of fun and does not add much time vs pavement. Silver Jack reservoir is a really cool place to stop and cool your feet or do some fishing. Plus you drive right past Chimney rock which is a bonus.

5vz-FE Supercharger leaking at the bypass valve elbow

Can you explain to me how the bypass functions? What exactly does it do? Thanks again for the info, I'll follow your advice.

5vz-FE Supercharger leaking at the bypass valve elbow

Wow, awesome. Just what I was looking for. Looks like Jonbond has an oring kit as well. Cant thank you enough. Saved me lots of time. The nosecone on mine was replace with a rebuilt one about 40k ago so I'm good there.

5vz-FE Supercharger leaking at the bypass valve elbow

I think that's what its called, by bypass valve elbow. Been pulling a P0171 Code for a lean condition. Sprayed some starter fluid around the supercharger and found the idle changed pretty drastically when I sprayed around the elbow for the bypass valve. It actually moves quite a bit when you...

Purchased JDM Engine, found water in the intake and oil pan

Looking for some ideas here. It runs and idles great. However anything above like 1/2 throttle it starts to stumble and sputter. I've also got the P0171 code. I've been looking for vaccuum leaks to no avail. I don't think it's the MAF sensor either.

    I need a 5vz-FE. Threw a rod in my 4runner this morning.

It took a lot of head scratching for me too with the Timing belt. I think I had to re-do it like a half dozen times. Oh, if I could only get that time back... With the 5VZ-FE, there is an upper idler pulley which is between and below the cam pulley's. You actually have to have this idler...

Purchased JDM Engine, found water in the intake and oil pan

I finally got the motor to fire up last night! I fought with this thing for many many hours (30-35). Once I got it started it fired right up and ran really, really nice. Still have to button things up but I should be driving it by the end of the week.

    I need a 5vz-FE. Threw a rod in my 4runner this morning.

Hi Darryl, I've been working on a 5VZ-FE, which is in a 3rd generation 4runner (year 2000 in my case). It's been a bit of a bear to be honest. I took a 3 day weekend and between Thursday at 7pm, and Sunday at 2pm i think I had about 30 hours into the project. I hit a wall at 2pm and just...

    I need a 5vz-FE. Threw a rod in my 4runner this morning.

I got some advice from a friend who is a mechanic. The advice was that a little bit of water is probably no big deal, or much of a concern at all. The water that came out of the engine was clear and not muddy. I dumped out the water, then pulled the lower intake. I was concerned because I...

Purchased JDM Engine, found water in the intake and oil pan

Looks like I jumped the gun a little bit. First I rotated the engine on the stand to dump out the water in the intake, then removed the lower intake. I was worried because I could see rust on the valve stems. Well I could reach in and with it away with my finger and they look just fine...

Purchased JDM Engine, found water in the intake and oil pan

Thanks Honk. Called a friend of mine who is a professional mechanic. He said as log as its not rusted on the inside it should be fine. Gonna try to pull the oil pan tonight.

    I need a 5vz-FE. Threw a rod in my 4runner this morning.

Not sure yet. I ended up buying a JDM engine. Received it on Friday. I began tearing it down to a longblock, and found water in the lower intake and in the oil pan. I'm trying to determine how bad this is. The company I bought it from wants me to put oil in the spark plug holes and make...

Purchased JDM Engine, found water in the intake and oil pan

I recently purchased a JDM 5VZ-FE engine. When I tore it down I found water inside of the lower intake. When I drained the oil pan some clear water drained out, followed by some oil. The company I purchased it from is telling me to do a leak down test on it, and pour some oil in the...

    I need a 5vz-FE. Threw a rod in my 4runner this morning.

Threw a connecting rod in my 4runner this morning. I'm starting the search for a replacement long block. Does anyone have any experience with so called "Low Mileage JDM" engines listed on ebay or other sites? If anyone has any ideas for me I'm all ears. I might be in the market for a cheap...

5VZ-FE 3.4 - Anyone have experience with "JDM" engines?

I threw a rod in my 4runner this morning. I'm trying to figure out my options. Cheapest option, but biggest pain in MY ass is to buy a used motor and install it over a weekend. See places on craigslist and ebay advertising low mileage "JDM" engines. TOYOTA 1996 2002 TACOMA TUNDRA T100 4...
