I have a custom mount on the drag link using the OME bolt and used the other OME bolt that is mounted to the plate that bolts to the front crossmember. I just bolted my Fox stabilizer straight on. The only drawback is that the bolts are a tiny bit too short.
I did research and measured the...
I used a pipe coupler that I sanded down a little and it fit perfectly as well. I don't remember the specifics but I found it on a search here for homemade bushing removal tool.
Very interesting, I have noticed a slight variation in the past as well (I am very OCD ;)) but nothing like that one occurrence. I hadn't considered the rear bushings but coincidentally, or not, mine are all old as well with all new fronts.
I figured it would be asking a lot but can't hurt. I have a hard time trusting people to work on my rig so I would much rather use someone I know is good.
I just remembered something that I had forgotten as I retread your last post Spike. I hit a partially submerged rock at speed with my pass front tire and it actually resulted in my steering wheel about 30 degrees spun to the right when the truck was driving straight on the highway. I expected...
Perfect, that is exactly the type of input I was looking for because I haven't done a bunch of these and don't know my s*** either. Where you were before is where I am now. Tools is EXACTLY who I would want to rebuild my box but I didn't know I could send it to him. I will have to PM him...
Thanks Spike, I had a feeling that there was more going on than what the external adjusting screw was affecting. Might use this as an excuse to swap a 105 sector shaft and tap the box for a ram assist while its apart. Problem is it is my daily driver for a little while longer and I want to have...
So I searched and read the FAQ on the steering gear box and general steering issues and found lots that is almost this but not quite. 2 core problems 1) excessive steering wheel play and 2) Rough steering feel. Sounds like whats been asked a million times I know but keep reading.
1. My...
Appreciate it brother, literally can't drive that far right now, at least safely. 3 out of the 4 bushings are totally separated. She is a handful. I will let you know if I need to take you up on it.
I already told her that when she bitched about the money I spent on parts.
Just wait till you have two running around.
The most painful part is I am having to drive my Mom's Heep while my baby is down. Ouch!
Thanks again to all for the input.
Thanks Tools, I double checked to make sure they were all rounded edge out and facing the same direction based on the wear pattern. Thankfully two vanes stayed in place so I was able to reference them.
Lesson boys and girls; never rush to please the princess on a job you have not done before...
The pump is all the way back together and passes muster for resistance for FSM. All feels good song going to go with it. Thanks to all for the help much appreciated.
Both pictures are of the same side, the seal side. This is post clean up with a machinist file. I have the shaft fitting smoothly at this point so I think I will proceed with the rebuild. Especially after seeing the price of a rebuilt power steering pump posted above!
Also I cleaned the hell...
