anyone using MSD ignition instead of toyota ignitor?

I was using a MSD before switching the entire unit to DUI. Worked flawlessly and cleaned up the wiring alot. Had to replace the distributor to DUI when the Pertronix sent metal filings throughout the distributor head and kept grounding out.

    Heated seat owners...

I have seats from an Acura RSX and put heated seats in from an Ebay seller. They were a tight fit and have been in for 6 years now without shifting. The switch is on the dash were there was an empty hole. Would do it again without hesitation.

    small block 400

I had a 400 in a 1979 Malibu for years and had no problems with it. Just make sure you are using an appropriate radiator with your FJ and you should be fine. My only problem was sitting at stop lights or extended idling would it start to warm up. This was due to the mechanical fan being too...

Where to find replacement sill and??

I drew one out on a piece of paper and took it to the local sheet metal guy in town and he bent one out for $25. I had him make it long so that I could cut it to fit.

    welding upsidedown what's the secret?

Go to the Miller Welding website and look at their 'tips' section. They go over welding upside down.

who is making the Snap-On MIG welders?

Go with name like Miller and it would be hard to go wrong. Took mine to my parents' house to do a project for them and forgot to bring my spare parts with. Looked up the local Miller dealer in town and walked out with the part I needed in 10 minutes verses having to get something mail order...

    winter wheels

I'll second the Summit site for finding wheels. I bought Cragar Soft 8's for my '77. Under $50 each, powdercoated and the size that you want with alot of backspacing options.

How well do the heaters in 40s work?

Live in Iowa and it is Zero today. With both front and rear going at the same time, I still have yet to put the hardtop back on!

    Are starters easy to fix?

Went to NAPA and ordered a gear reduction starter for a 1985 Fj60 to put on my 1977 Fj40. $125. Better than fixing my old non-reduction starter that was on the rig before. Works alot better too!

Dog ate jar of diaper ointment

Keep a bottle of hydrogen peroxide around for the dog. If he eats anything suspicious, make him drink the bottle. Stand back and watch him puke for the next 15 minutes. Great way to empty their stomach!

    Need Starter Recommendation

I have to admit that this is the greatest website ever! Thought about selling my 40 and can't do it. Would be like selling one of my kids. Really want to restore this thing and start driving again as my daily driver. Nothing like being a financial advisor for a Swiss bank and driving a...

    Need Starter Recommendation

Starter is out of my 1977 with a 2f. If I remember correctly, some have said to go with one from a FJ60 to get gear reduction. What should I get ordered for a replacement?

SOR Front Door Weatherstrip "KIT" Product review

AATLAS I had purchased a kit from CCOT years ago and wouldn't do so again. The kit sucked and was a real pain to install. My question to you is this...how do you glue the seal to the door so that I don't get the black stuff all over the place? That was one of the problems that I had and...

    Painting this weekend...

Anyway you can hang it from the ceiling with multiple cables? You could always use a piece of angle iron sitting on top of each saw horse. If you use some of the 3 inch stuff, it would leave just a small line unpainted. Move it around after each coat and then should be just a small area to...

consensus on tailgate or half doors for softtop?

I also bought the CCOT tailgate cover. I live in Iowa and am good about keeping my cruiser clean...started rusting within a month and looks like a piece of scrap metal from the yard after a year. Quality wasn't job one on this. Save your money and make your own or go aluminum. Wished I had...

Window felts and rubber... ideas welcome

Drew Just got done with mine. Ordered from CCOT and now the doors don't rattle anymore. They used to drive me crazy going down the road and now nothing but sweet peace. Took me about a half an hour for each door for inner, outer and upper pieces. The upper was about 4 inches too long, so...

    Missing Voltage Regulator

At first I thought that it was the alternator. Amp meter would drop of to discharge when at idle then pick up with some RPM's. Now, shows discharge on the guage no matter the RPM's and then, all of the sudden, jumps up to positive 30. Lights all get bright, heater fan picks up, etc. And more...

    Missing Voltage Regulator

I think I just answered my own question when I had to move some stuff around to get a good picture of the firewall below the brake master cylinder. Is this the voltage regulator, just in a smaller box?
