    Shimmy at 50mph

I've been messing with a front end shimmy on my '77 FJ-40 for some time now. It has 4" SUA lift springs, JTO 2.25" anti-invert shackles, and 35" MT Radial Claws on 10" Fake beadlock rims. All bolts are tight and torqued. Tie rod ends are good. I've added a new stock stabilizer, plus an...

    whirring v-belts on LX450

Seems logical to me too. BUT...I just talked to a Toyota Service Tech and he thinks it's the main idler bearing. I just don't see why a simple belt change could produce a noise that wasn't there before. The only new element in the equation is the non-OEM belts. I think I'll go get some Toyota...

    whirring v-belts on LX450

I just replaced the v-belts to the alternator on my 1996 LX450. A much tougher job than working my old FJ40!!! Once installed and adjusted, I started the engine and the previously quiet engine was whirring big time. Bad at idle...worse when revved up to 2500...not so much after 3000 rpm...

    Wanted FJ60 Manual

Need 2F Headers My headers on my 1977 FJ-40's 2F are cracked in 2 places. Need new or like new - heck, anything in good shape I would consider. They are similar to the Man-A-Fre 6 into 1's. Anyone got some in good shape they can part with?

    2F Engine Proble?

I need some possible diagnois here! My '77 2F has had a noticeable loss in power for the last few months - felt mostly on highway hills - could be a failing vacuum advance (mentioned in my earlier thread). The engine has had a different sound too??? Yesterday I was doing some moderate wheeling...

    Vacuum Advance Distributor???

The Nardek unit looks good - I guess it's vacuum advance??? Best I can tell from the website, it is. The price is actually cheaper than Downey cause the shipping is included (a little over $200 US). I would assume that I could easily upgrade the unit to electronic ignition. Anyone know more...

    Vacuum Advance Distributor???

My '77 FJ-40's 2F dosen't seem to be vacuum advancing (at all). Starts quick, runs smooth, but stumbles at initial throttle and lacks power as the RPM's go up. At highway speed, grades really labor the engine and pings occasionally chime in. The smog stuff's gone, and it definitely IS an advance...

    Bolt-On Power Steering

Tie rods, knuckles, lugs, suspension, etc. is good...my center arm is major loose. I've tightened and retightened to no avail. The 35's are wearing it out. It needs to be rebuilt, but I'd rather convert using a system that scraps the center arm and 2 tierods in the process. With power assist to...

    Bolt-On Power Steering

One of my main goals for converting to PS is to tighten up my wandering factory set up. Looks like the JTO kit won't help me there. Saginaw may be the only route. I can't tell if the Classic Cruisers kit eliminates the factory, extra drag link???

    Bolt-On Power Steering

I'm not mechanically inclined enough to do a conversion like in the tech pages. What do you think I will need to budget for to have a local shop do a Saginaw conversion, using used box/rebuilt pump...like in tech articles? What's a fair price for parts and labor? Should I get the parts myself...

    Bolt-On Power Steering

Does anyone know about the Classic Cruisers Power Steering conversion kit for an FJ-40? They say it's a bolt-on, all-inclusive, no trips to NAPA kit. Is it a Saginaw box/pump? Will it be stout enough for 35's? Your comments please.

    383 into stock drivetrain

The heat problem may be from the sb400, rather than anything else. They are notorious for overheating - so I've read. That's why I am going with the 383. Cool running, with mega torque!

    383 into stock drivetrain

Around here (SW Missouri) there are steep, gnarly hill climb sections...usually full of deep ruts. As my rig is, she can't make it up a number of the hills. Alot of that is probably due to my skills to date. My 2F has seen better days though, and I'm tugging 35's. Is the Klune-V's, and like...

    383 into stock drivetrain

I'm thinking seriously about dropping a 383 Stoker into my 1977 FJ-40 (it's all stock 2F + 4spd drive now). My ultimate goal would be to add either the SM465 or TH400 auto, along with a lower T-case or using something like the new Klune-V "David", with my current T-case. My question is: with all...
