This is just an FYI, for people that have been around the club for a while.
Rick Ellsworth of the Forestry Service is finally actually retiring as of June 30th. He's threatened retirement before, but this time is't for real. He's leaving the USFS after 44 years.
These trees were cleared today as well. It's not surprising that these trees were down. I'm guessing the a USFS biologist, or someone acting on their instructions did what's called a standing kill on all these trees. Typically, it takes about 3-5 years for the trees to fall after the treatment.
I need to get a rusted out section of frame repaired (or replaced) on my Tacoma. Does anyone know of shop that can do that sort of work (ideally, without having to mortgage the house).
Thanks
The recent thunderstorms created severe washouts on 300V. They start 1/10 mile west of Rampart Range Rd. Heading west on 300V is very hazardous. You wouldn't be able to see what's going on in front of you. I was going east and had to winch out of washouts twice. It took me an hour to go 0.3...
Just an FYI, GMRS radios require a license to operate. The only radios that don’t require a license are CB, FRS and MURS. I wouldn’t count on FRS or MURS for anything over 1/2 mile. Both also require radio equipment specifically made (Type certified) for the radio service.
Hi, I received a PDF file from Pfeiffer about the tree cutting this year. It contains maps of the 3 separate cutting areas.
Link to the PDF (didn't see a way to put it on here).

I just received the email below from Jon Pfeiffer about the cutting program. This year the area south of Mt. Herman won’t be in the cutting area due to the timber cutting operation going on.

I talked with some people Sunday (the 11th) about the car. One of them asked "Was it caught in a flash flood?" Ummm....yeah, and then a flash freeze. Duh!
I too am waiting for the tire marks over the top of it.
If anyone has photos of the vehicle, Rick Ellsworth is keeping track of the...
The Forestry is holding an after action review at the end of the month. They are looking for suggestions, comments and concerns about the tree cutting program.
If you have some comments or suggestions you’d like to make either post them here (which might be a good idea to get others thinking...
Yup, I talked with Rick today. There's no plans on doing anything about it.
He was planning on going to North Divide area to impound yet another abandoned trailer, though. That will make 5 trailers sitting around the work center.
When I found the Escape, I broke off a tree that was frozen into the creek so that people could get around it. Before that, there was no way around it.
The other truck frozen in to a creek is supposed to get removed in the very near future. This week or next.
I thought of fire, but figured it might catch the forest on fire so that's not a good idea.
Ice melt might take an entire dump truck. I think the ice is around 9 inches thick (might be thicker by now).
Waiting for spring is probably the only real option. But by then, they'll need a tow truck...
Hey, does anyone have great ideas on how to get this stuck Ford Escape out of the creek. OBTW, it's frozen into the creek. At least the tires are and possibly some of the undercarriage parts are as well. Pfeiffer had Fred's Towing up there, and the tow truck couldn't budge the SUV. (not too...
Just an fyi about the Christmas tree cutting program this year. The Forestry sold 5,391 permits this year. I'm pretty sure that's several hundred more than normal.

If you haven't already please report the "soldering log" to the forestry. 719.636.1602. Please provide them with as much info as possible. Time, date, location (exact as possible), was it in a fire ring or not. Campfires, or smoldering logs, not in fire rings are considered wild fires.

Talked with some forestry folks last night. They mentioned that someone got stuck on 315 in the last week. If we get more snow, that's more likely to happen with all the public up there on the weekends. Even though it's not in the cutting area people are always going out that way. Also, Rick is...
I was over the tippy section on 315 on Sunday and it wasn't bad. But then, I wouldn't want the general public going over it. I was wondering if 300U and V were iced over yet.
From what I saw on Sunday was if it's shady, it's probably icy. Lots of icy spots on 314 & 315.
All the new fencing...
