Monster Carport...Clemson Style

Well Gang it's almost february and this is the month that the 40 will come alive and breath fire!! Saturday Feb. 18th is the day I'm gonna have the help a member of the month day. All are welcome over to the carport to participate in this great day of wrenching. In store for the day is to rebuild the disk axle that will go under the 40....this will be a complete axle rebuild with new 30 spline birfs and axles...fairly new brake lines...The reassembly should go fairly smoothly and the only thing left to do after that day is to get the new calipers and take the axle to Marshall's and weld on the spring perches. Also going on this fine day will be the installation of a 4 speed tranny and tcase into an f engine. And this will include installing a new oil pan gasket...flywheel..4speed clutch..bellhousing(may already be done for time sakes)...new seals and gaskets. I have to measure my drive shafts...I have an extra 4 speed one for the front and I think the back is ok...may have to get them re done. So if you are to come join in the ferstivities you will learn a lot..including myself and you will have a blast. I'll have drinks and lunch will be sandwhiches...I'll have the frie pit goin to keep us warm as we work.

How to get to my house....come down 123 take the clemson exit and go towards central...the bilo will be on your left and the old winn dixie on your right...in front of winn dixie is Sardis Den, take a right between Sardis den and Capital Bank...go to the stop sign..take a left..go around the curve take your first left and then your first right, which is Pleasant View Dr....It's 109 Pleasant View Dr. on the right. I'll be startin just after breakfast so if ya get here and I'm not outside just come knock on the door...prob finishin up breakfast. Bring what ever tools ya have....an air compressor with an impact wrench will be of great help for the old axle removal.... Marshall if ya wanna bring your welder you can, I do have a 220 outlet in the room in the carport...how long is the cord on yoru welder? But I do understand it may be easier for me to haul the axle to your house. Any kind of pullers, pushers, and pounders you have bring it cause we may need it. Alan, Marshal, JP...anyone else...if you can think of other tools i need please let me know.

After the 18th the only thing left to do Mechanically is the rear brake conversion and replace with the dual master cylinder and refit with new rear brake lines....then the beast will be ready to roll.

Thanks a bunch!! Chuck

I'll be there also. What kind of plug do you have on your dryer? If I can rig an adapter maybe I could bring the welder and we could weld the perches on there?

I'll bring my homemade extension cord over so that your welder will work if you want to bring it marshall. It should be long enough to get out of Chucks laundry room and onto the carport floor.

tools

I have a set of air driven impact tools that have NEVER been used.
Is anyone bringing a compressor?
Should I bring a saws all?
I'll also bring my SSTs. I have a clutch pilot tool for alignment.
A pickle fork, torgue wrench, special pliers, fish scale, digital
dwell meter and a few other items.
I'll also bring Hard40s well pressure switch. I'll swap it for
the power bleeder.
I can't wait to get greasy again. I'm a coming....caliper cores in hand.

You dont have to be of much help, half the point is to learn some stuff and hang out. And of course drink chucks beer and eat his food.

I've replaced a clutch in my cruiser, so I do know a little about transmission removal/installs, and I've rebuilt a front carrier and all that jazz... but I just figure ya'll know more.. haha. Plus it's going to be cold... so I'll just stand there and drink chuck's beer and his food, like you said.

What does Chuck need?

I'll bring those disc cores and my tools.
It sounds like Chuck might have it all done
before saturday.

Bump in the Road

Hey Gang....Saturday is still on.....but I will be working with Marshall for part of the day replacing my Hot water heater. It went out on my last night sometime...thought it was a simple leaking element but unfortunately it's got a leak in the tank. Once again the Man comes thru for me..Marshall is a jack of all trades. We've talked and it shouldn't take too terribly long. Fortunately we have a great deal of skilled cruiser heads showing up on saturday to help on the 40, so those of you who are new or don't know how to do an axle swap or tranny swap still show up cause the show will go on. I will do my best to jump back and forth between the 2, but I'll buy more beer for you guys...I'm sorry about this, I really am, makes me sick I gotta do this. I'm foturnate to have a friend near by to shower so I won't stink this week. And just for my search purposes, I'm probably gonna put a 200 buck whirlpool water heater in, but if anyone knows where I can get one cheaper let me know. Thanks a bunch guys, and again I'm sorry about this.

Chuck
