Options for my 62

THIS IS NOT A SALE THREAD ITS FOR ADVICE ON WHAT TO DO.

Well Ive been trying to sell my 62 as you all know and between me droping the price so low I dont feel comfortable and people telling me Im still overpriced I have started trying to see if I can trade for something. I appreciated 3pits for taking up for me over on the regular for sale thread, but havent gotten much feedback from anyone else.

Options as of now

1. Part it - I honestly dont have the time or patience to part it out completely. I wouldnt mind sellign the lift, tires/rims, and 3rds/axles and going back to stock and selling it that way.

2. Drop the price so low that it gets gone, but I feel like crap for taking that much of a loss. (People were still giving me grief when I was considering $2500.)

3. Keep it at $3K and wait for someone to buy it.

4. Trade it for something else.
- This has become interesting as of late, and although I havent made a deal with anyone there have been several interesting offers.

a. 1978 International Scout its in primer at a body shop all rust (yeah right I know) is removed and its ready for paint, interior is good for its age and am told it runs and drives fine. Needs a tranny pan gasket. Still trying to work out when we can meet up to go over both.

b. 1953 CJ3a - Fiberglass body and hood (no rust) Stock almost everything else, getting a new radiator because the swampers he had on it were pushing it too hard. Has a cj5 roll bar. I had a 3b before I had a cruiser and it was cool, but I never got it road worthy because of my ignorance and lack of knowledge. Biggest downside for me on this on is that it only has a bikini top and I would want to add a cage. Here are a few pics. He sold the swampers it has skinnys on it now.

I would also consider a 40, but not so sure I could get one in good/decent condition in an even trade?

What are your 'needs' for a replacement vehicle? (I might have missed that...)

I don't know what to tell you. I'd look at what MonjoFJ60 did, and part out the high dollar components and then sell the stripped out rig. My only concerns would be that if you're having this tough of a time selling the truck as is, the basic truck might not bring much... Saw a FJ62 in Piedmont a month ago with 282k but less surface rust than yours for sale for $2400.

Matt,

Don't sell anything now if you aren't getting what you know is a good price. It's a buyers market and unless you really need to sell (really need!), you are pissing money away letting this market dictate prices.

Just hang on for 12 months, let the economy come back a bit, and you'll get more than $2500 for that truck I would think.

I voted keep it at $3k.

I like the CJ3a.. I know its a Jeep but the older ones are cool. Not sure if you will have a better time selling that if you are looking to trade and then sell the other truck. Whats a CJ3a valued compared to a 62? Hopefully the market will get better soon.

I dont really have any needs. The wife now drives the 80. I have her 4runner if I want it. Its a great truck, but not sure I want to wheel it as its a fairly nice truck.

I dont need to sell a vehicle or two, but I need to if that makes sense. I have 4 vehicles and the wife really only approves of 3, and lately shes been questioning that many. I originally put the 62 up b/c we bought the 80 for me, but now she has it now b/c of space and # of seats after March.

So realistically I could just sell the 4runner or the 62 and use the other truck as mine. But I have been getting one of those hankerings for something different. That and I'm not so sure I could buy something else if I sold both. Hence me thinking about a trade.

About parting it, I actually had a guy offer me $350 for both the 3rds (no lockright), I thought that was quite low. I cannot have a parts rig in my yard, it has to be tagged and insured if its not in a garage. Town ordinance. So thats a hurdle on parting it completely, and I dont really have the time/patience for parting it fully.

If it matters I got more pics of the 3a today, its clean with basically no rust on the frame or undercarriage.

Hoping to meet up with the Scout guy tomm so he can see the 62 and if he approves, go see the Scout next week.

Not sure about the value, they seem to go higher on eBay, but who knows on there at times. This one is actually registered as a kit car b/c of the fiberglass body, it came through a NC dealer with the last owner and the guy who has it actually traded a very nice cj5 that was built for it.

Only thing that really is holding me back with a Jeep is space, it has a 90" wheelbase and if I go with a convertible then it would be smaller than the Scout. But I think they go for more than scouts as well. Im not sure how the kit car title would affect price or if it even matters. From looking at the other pictures it looks like they might have gone that route b/c of not having a title for it?? Wierd b/c it looks to be in good condition and he says it ride great. He put the 31" swampers on it for something more agressive then he didnt like how rough they made it compared to b/f. So he went back to the skinnies.

Thing I would want to add to the 3a if I went that route is a top of some sort, and a roll cage, probably 6 point family style.
A top looks to be 5-600 new and I have seen a few old hard tops for cheaper, but they are far off. I think an original canvas style would be nice, similar to the original 40 style.
How much would a cage cost? And/or is there anyone in the club with enough knowledge of the bender to go that route? If so how much would the steel cost?

TO be honest with you I am still amazed that you still have it. I thought it wouldve sold at all the price points you have tried.

With that said, I agree with Steen. I would keep it and drive it, maybe over the course of that time when you have availble time, you can start the process of taking some of the goodies off of it. If you are selling it you may not really want to waste that time or money to get it back to stock though, i am not sure...

I wonder what a junk yard would offer you for the truck? just a thought. They could certainly part it and make some money.

Good luck with it all. I think after the cash for clunkers program kills some of the 60 series population the value should be a little better. Eventually you should be able to get at least 3k for it i would believe.

Thanks for all the opinions. I am still debating on the trade of the 3a.

But in the end I think I might rather build the 62 up and wheel it more. Maybe 35/36's and a manual tranny with some trimming.

I have to get the 4runner sold first if I go this route though.
