Garage
I'm a little baffled as to why you would take a full size mogg up those trails. That cannot be good for them.

I think the beige one lives about a mile from my house.

They must just have way too much funding. I can't understand why they run equipment up there and spend the man hours digging the place out when they could close any one of the dozens of gates up there.

Gates get ripped open/down. There is no equipment/supplies lost when a tank trap berm gets worn down - only labor and more labor would be used anyways erecting a gate.

Does anyone have enough knowledge of where the tank traps are located to compare those locations to the USFS map of open trails?

Fair enough, but they sure have a lot of gates up there and almost all of them just stay open. I guess maybe they tried the closed gate tactic before, and ran into the problems you addressed. Do you think they'd still be open to a bunch of wheelers coming up and helping with trail maintanence?

Been there, tried that, opened a big can of worms that I'm not diving into again.

If you would like to take that over I am more than happy to give you my contact information and tell you what I know. It would take a few beers time...

Oh my god, the forest service might be destroying a salamander, or centipede that lives in those few square feet!!! Someone should protest, at best they are ruining drainage in the area, but I guess fishermen have to say something before they will notice..... Once again I say National Forest Service

There are several types of road closure--tank traps are used to permenately close a road and let it grow over so it will never be used again.

Tank traps can also easily be leveled back off by the FS if they decide to reopen a road - one big ole' blade and we could be back in business.

It is much harder to have a road reopened though than to have it closed... gotta get on the front end of the situation - be proactive, not reactive.
