TT OBX Trip: We Should Plagerize that Trip!

I just got through reading the OBX trip report for ONSC in TT. That is precisely the type of trip I've been looking to do. (When I go to the outerbanks by myself, I hesitate to drive the beach alone as I know, eventually, I'm going to get stuck with the tide coming in).

Sure would be nice to organize a UC or a UC/ONSC joint event for sometime in October or early November. (Good time to fish!) The only question I have from the article is how far did ONSC go on the beach past Corolla? Did they venture to Virginia?

I believe there is a nice campground on Knots Island which would make a good camping spot for night three.

I know MelloYellow would be in for this . . . anyone else?

(Here is a great pic I found of the Corolla light as seen from the surf line)

I would be up for it. Me and Wife have already talked about doing it as a family anyways. Also Franklin Park at Carolina Beech would be good. Can drive on the beech but no trailers.

I don't know if we should plagiarize it but you do have a lot of great ideas. We have always had a North meets South. Last year was from what I can tell was very successful. Even if it was crowded. I think it would be more beneficial to have this trip the same time they have theirs and we just pile on. From what I can see the Spring Tide Ride is their signature event. Like GSMTR is ours. I say we just plan on next year piling in with them for the event and help them grow their event. It could seriously turn into a really big Cruiser event. And best of all there is plenty of room to do your own thing.

One thing we really need to do is think about our event schedule. In the past UC was really the only club in the area that had major events. (Cullowhee Fall, MLK, Cullowhee Winter Fun Run, North Meets South, OMT, Annual, Blue Ridge Ride) Now we have another sub chapter that from what I can tell has just as much involvement as UC has thanks to the hard work and total dedication of Ron and David as well as all the other LC guys and gals. They also want to have some signature events and I don't want as well all of you don't want us to steal their thunder. Also Ga Cruisers and ONSC are getting into the mix on signature events. And considering they are on our back doorstep I say we ought to think about making all of our schedules work together. This could help grow all the clubs and make it a little easier on all of us so we don't have to plan a ton of events.

All this brings up an idea I have been floating around in my head. I'll post it in another thread.

With all of the events going on from the different clubs around us, Is there a way we can set up some sort of combined calendar so that each club can see what is going on with the surrounding clubs and try not to plan multiple events on the same weekend. Might help to grow certain events and help with planning weekend trips.

Just a thought

Dave

All,

We spent a lot of time and effort into planning this trip, as this will probably be our sanctioned ride, given we get enough pull from the surrounding groups. This is the second time we've been up as a group, but this was our first as an official TLC chapter. We were all for inviting everyone close by, but we wanted a dry run before we committed to a lot of people. I know how much planning you guys put into GSMTR, and we were far from that level of organization.

This years trip, we did not go up to the VA line, we ran out of time on Sunday, and needed to head home. Last years trip we did, and ran into sleet and flurries. Next years trip, I'm going to propose doing that first, and heading south, ending at Ocracoke.

Stay tuned, as I think I'm going to go ahead and set a date for next years Spring Tide Ride 2010. Of course we're going to have it in April, and if you know what the meaning of the name of the ride, you can figure out which weekend I'm going to lean to...

Brian

Brian we need to talk about this at Brown Mountain, I had some ideas i've been getting together for next years trip.

Marshall I also like your idea of trying to coordinate trips between all the clubs better.

Marshall, since we all go to pretty much the same areas I think that is a good way to do it...maybe get a OFFICER MEETING between the different clubs sometime and go over MUST HAVES and fun trips they all do. Then make it so each club has their signature events and plug in runs along the way to different areas making sure we dont all show at same place at same time at the GULCHES but a place like Uwharrie could handle it better.

If we are going to Durhamtown, Gulches, Tellico (maybe), Uwharrie, Cullowhee, OBX/Carolina Beach plus if that place in Liberty ever gets organized......That is likely 6 events a year by themselves......then our smaller regional group runs fill in between those with HAMOMS, cookouts or random runs up the road.

Hell, our run to Uwharrie last time was a spur of the moment...LETS GO WHEELING ordeal and proved to be very successful with over 20 rigs in attendance and nearly 30 people on trails....with 12 rigs and 23 people in attendance for our mystry meat stew that night and applie pie beverages. LOL

Sounds like a great plan....kind of like we did in traditional archery clubs back in 90s in state...we all picked our signature shoot and then drew for other months to spread the workload on hosting event....and ensure there was an activity every month somewhere if you had the urge.

Thanks Marshall and we'd love to have the support of the UC when we do this again next year. As I wrote in the article, we felt this part of our region deserved as much focus as the Western part of the state.

I agree that we should work together in having a regional calendar so that all who want to play in each other's backyard can do so without conflicting events. As you stated, this will help all of our chapters grow, bring more off-road enthusiasts into play so we can stay organized, visible and active to keep OHV access issues fresh in everyone's mind...

Great ideas Brock. I wasn't able to make the Sat URE "Lets go wheeling" but did make Sun and we still had quite a few rigs there. We clearly have an active group in the region, we are very lucky in that...
