forestry roads/Fire roads

Probably a dumb question but when you guys are scoping out new areas to wheel, how do you located these forestry roads?
I am headed to Sparta NC this fall and wanted to see if there was any wheeling exploration that we could do.

We lived in Elkin years ago, I'm pretty sure there are some nice ones going up the mountain to Sparta.

Did you download and run the software link I sent you? If not your missing out of probably the best scouting trail tool.

GoTo / populated places (download this file and then select a city close to your area you want to look for)

View/ maptype/ topomaps

Once you have that all you have to do is press the F button to fill the data. Use the arrow keys to move around and the +/- keys to zoom in and out. And if you have a GPS reciever it makes finding the trails even easier.

Just did it. Working on getting the hang of it. Pretty much not going to accomplish any work tomorrow since I have this to play with now!.

Thanks for the direction.

If anyone needs more cartographic (mapping) info on a specific area please let me know. I make maps for a living - and have access to data the general public doesn't.

Speaking of which, did you ever figure out where that road we were on at GSMTR went?

We can get a small group and go do Hurricane creek one weekend. not a bad drive with a few hard areas and a few camping spots... Might be fun for a overnight trip...
