That's what I was talking about. Glad you posted the link, I couldn't find it. Missy, the campground host, knows her stuff. Nobody enters that camp that she doesn't have an eye on. Stick to her rules and all is good!

I am going to be there! And I've volunteered to lead this thing up. I'm gonna contact the windrock campground to get us somewhere where we can enjoy our adult libations. Watch this thread for more information over the weekend.

I found an article in an old "Four Wheeler" mag about Coal Creek/Windrock
It States:

Park History: The Coal Creek Mining and Mqanufacturing Co. has owned this prop[erty since the late 1800's. The company still mines coal, cuts timber, and drills for oil and gas on the property. In 2000, the OHV park was established through an agreement between CCMMC and the Windrock ATV club. Windrock oversees all OHV activites, including trail buildein and maintence.

Total Acrage: 72,000

Miles/number of trails: unknown/175+

Difficulty rating: Easy to Advanced

Popular obstacles: Rattle rock (an extreme rock garden built by Rattle rock 4WD club), Trail 21 (a gnarley trail with some serious hillclimbs) and Atomic Ridge ( built by the Atomic City 4WD club).

Admission Fee: [I think this has changed] $10 per day per vehicle or $50 annual membership fee.

Hours/Days of operation: 24 ours a day/7days a week.

Restroom facilities: [may have changed,I hope] NO.

Camping on premises: Yes, free w/ park admission[again, might have changed]

Nearest civilization: Osk Ridge, TN, 4 miles

Contact: Windrock ATV club,Dept FW,PO box 391, Oliver Springs, TN 37840 865-435-0486
windrock

LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!

There have been several changes since that article. Back then the park was run by Windrock ATV Club. They had a falling out with the company and the Mining company took over management of the area. The prices have gone up and are per person including passengers. They have made a number of improvements but some of the trails went away when they expanded the gas wells a couple of years ago. I have not ridden there in several years but people tell me that it is still a great area. The high ground has a large number of windmills.
Here is the website windrock

Exclamation

Updated information for OTMT

Camping:
The campground is being changed to Windrock Campground (as referred by Roger - DSLTOY) The phone number is 865-435-3939. Please call Missy and tell her that you are with the Upstate Cruisers for August 20-23. She will place us all together.

Specifics:
- $20/night/tent - this includes 2 people
- $3/night/extra person in a tent. In other words if your have 5 in your tent, it would be an extra $9/night.
- Quiet time is 11PM - 7AM. No radios/music after 11. You can still sit around the campfire and BS and drink, but no radios. Also, if you need to move your truck during quiet time, that's cool, just don't let it idle.
- Bring your beer, as this place is Alcohol-friendly.
- Bunk houses are available for those who are less daring, but I don't know how far they would be from our group site.

Food:
As Steve said, this will be a back-to-basics UC event. We can't provide food for an evening, so please plan accordingly. We are looking at doing a big ol' pot of Rotel one evening.

T-shirts:
Are you all interested in doing a shirt for this event? I have an idea for a shirt in army green, but want to know if anyone wants a shirt.

Misc:
- As this is back-to-basics, we won't be having a raffle.
- Since no raffle and no food night, we also are going to leave the big UC tent at home. Please bring your own chairs and pop up shelters if you want manufactured shade.

Post up if you're coming. As we get closer, we'll put together groups for traveling there.

Thanks

Rob and I have RV spaces reserved, so far we have Rob, Todd, Andy Goode and myself coming, hopefully there will be a few more. I have not been there in several years but we will get a map and lead a harder group.

This looks like fun and I would enjoy seeing some new areas. My work has me booked the last half of August. Looks like September or October will be when I get my mountain fix. Have great time

For those that are interested, I will be wheeling on Sunday and staying Sunday night. I won't be arriving until Friday night (got a class at work I can't get out of), but will make up for it on Sunday. Might be a way for some of our Iron Butts to get another day of wheelin in. I will be interested in caravaning up there if you want to do the same.

This means that I need someone to help out on Friday organizing trail ride groups, and possibly getting waivers signed.

Also, I'll have the shirt idea up by the end of the week. Keep your eyes open.

Time for some more pics/info and time to get some interest going for this event. Little over 3 weeks away.

From the Coal Creek OHV website:

"Trails range from gravel roads to extreme mountainous terrain. Easy trails include gravel roads and hard packed clay trails with few if any challenges.

Most trails are rated "moderate" and include mud, small rocks and small hill climbs. The more "difficult" rated trails will include off cambers, tougher hill climbs, rocks, mud and should only be attempted by experienced riders.

There are over 160+ miles of trails now open in the area. All trails are marked with a trail number, degree of difficulty and vehicles allowed on the trail. Some trails are restricted to ATV and Motorcycle use only.

There are plenty of different trails for all types of vehicles and adrenaline levels. There is also beautiful mountain scenery around every corner.

To access the OHV area you are required to have a Land Use Permit. Each person entering the area, regardless of age or activity must possess a land use permit while using the OHV area."

So bring any and every truck, it sounds like there will be more than enough to do no matter what the skill level of the driver or truck is.

Here are some pics from different sites on the web (Sorry not enough Toyota pics out there, we'll have to change that):

Big Boy Areas:

Less Breakage Areas:

Here's a map of the place.

The attachment is a more in-depth trail detail.

SO WHO'S READY TO GO WHEELIN?

Assuming I finish everything in-time, Leaving Fri. and coming home Mon. works GREAT for me so I'm in on the caravan.

FYI, comparing my previous GPS track to the detailed PDF map above...trail 39 dead ends less than 1 mile after you turn off of trail 3.

So, don't bother with trail 39.

Admission Fee: [I think this has changed] $10 per day per vehicle or $50 annual membership fee.

I went up there last year while in Knoxville and they charged $15 per person. Me, brother-in-law, three kids under 10yrs $75 BUCKS.

Loaded with motorcycle and four-wheelers. The parking lot/off-load area and sign-in area was a zoo.

We ran WindRock a while back. Had a great time - lot's of good trails then; but can't remember many of them. Here's a very short link - doesn't do the park justice:

http://forum.ih8mud.com/va-bay-blue-...ock-rocks.html

Take lots of pictures, I'm livin' wheelin' through the web right now...

I'm pretty sure Carp has the shirts in process. I'll let him post details, since he designed and ordered them.

I do have the idea for shirts, as well as some work done, and it is still possible to have the shirts done by the event. The big thing is that I need to get an idea on how many people would want a t-shirt. UC as a whole are trying to get better about ordering only the number of shirts that we have "orders" for. We still have a lot of shirts from previous events that we can't sell, so we're being a little more conservative with future shirts.

If you think you want a t-shirt for OTMT, please post up. I'll put the shirt design up here tonight, as I need to put the finishing touches on it.

Thanks for bringing this up again!

I've got everything set up and was called for jury duty last week. It's now going to go into next week for sure. This trip is in real jeopardy right now.

Talk to the Clerk, they may let you serve the next session if you have a vacation planned.

OR, wear your "hang-em all!" tee shirt to the qualifying.
