I have a back pasture that will be cut for hay soon, and we shoot skeet there, it is remote, and has some decent places to shoot, unless you want to shoot 300yds out it is not that big, I think I measured off a nice 100-150 yd lane

keep me in the loop if you want to do this, my house is in between the SC guys and the ATL guys, which might make it easier for more people to attend

I have a portable skeet thrower, about half a box of clays, 3 shotguns and that field is perfect for it, tree lined, hidden away, with a valley thru the middle of it so the clays have a lot of air time. The nearest house is over 1/4 mile away behind where we shoot, in the direction of the shot I think the closest house is 2 miles or so,,,nothing in the pasture beside us either, guys use it only for a hunting area in the fall.

so we need a date, (sunday is best for me) some clays, and some ammo, most of what I have is 00 buck, slugs and low power rounds for door hinge removal (dont ask) , I can probably get D to stop at basspro shops on her way home one night to get supplies if I give her a GC and instruct her to buy some fishing gear for herself, let me know what is a good date and if others have a skeet thrower (I have a mossberg 500 which has never jammed or had a problem 12 ga, a benneli m1 super 90 with the extension 12 ga and a winchester pump 16 ga) the benneli is SUPER fun and easy on the shoulder

about the pigs and coyotes, I have been at least 9 times and only saw 1 hog, the guy is letting me use it claims when he goes he sees 30-40 so either he is a liar, or I am REALLY bad at this thing, I did get one 100# sow and lost a lot of hearing from it, but that does not discourage me, I just bought some shooting style ear plugs,,, carry one in my mouth one in an ear, thinking if I see a hog I will put the one in my mouth in my ear and then shoot,,, but I have not seen any ,I am getting a permit to hunt over bait this summer and have the ultimate endless supply of slop from the restaurant, I will ferment it in 5 gallon buckets and then transport it in 1 gallon containers, I spread some slop last time I was there but that was about half way thru turkey season (all the hunt club guys were out of town so they said I could go) but have not been back to inspect it and make sure it was eaten,, I am sure it was.

I think the way to do this is to spread out about 10-15 gallons of slop either the night before or around 4-5 am, then sit in a stand and wait,, Don has told me 3 different times this year he has seen large herds,,,, but I am becoming skeptical. The last 2 times I went were right after a rain and I saw more turkey/dee/bobcat/coyote tracks than I did pig

I am warming up the guy across the street to my hunting, he has 1200 acres, but said both neighbors have traps set up and are catching them to sell, so maybe that is why the population is down.

I have seen a lot of bobcat and coyote tracks, I have heard a lot of screams I think they were from bobcats. Turkey season ended recently so we can go back (usually I cannot go during turkey season and deer season) but I am up for going this summer!! Don said the hogs hang out on his property more in the summer than the other seasons BC he has the river and a swampy area.

off to catch some big ones!!!-------> bass that is!!

let me know

steve/bill if you want to make the trip Ill set up the pig hunting no guarantees but Ill fill you in on the lay of the land, feeders, etc, I need to buy a 4 wheeler as if we get any decent sized ones it will be tough to move the to the cruiser,,, I want to build a trap on the property too if they will let me, I have been dreaming of grilled piglet under 15 weeks and under 7# gut them, bake them on the grill, eat the whole thing!!! mmmmm sounds delicious!!

Guys, a four year old shot a three year old this morning with a .22. The kid was looking around but that is all I know about him. I just had a minute to speak with the flight crew before we had to get back on the road.

Pretty freaking irresponible parents IMO.

Dateline - July 29, 1:37 PM

Saw a coyote cross the street right in front of my cruiser and duck into some woods near Cumberland Pkwy and I-285, about a mile from my office. Crazy! There is a good plot of thick woods at that intersection, so I'm sure he's doin' aight as far as small prey are concerned. It's just creepy to think of the proximity to the apts and neighborhoods.

Well it's 14 days and counting until my CWP should be here. I just ordered another carry holster for the 1911 for when I get it. I bought a Milt Sparks SSII for my Ultra CDP Kimber.

Tomorrow my holster gets here for my latest carry piece. I got a Simply Rugged Long Hunter and chest/shoulder rig for my new 7'1/2" Super Blackhawk (.44 Magnum). Not something I'd wear to Falls Park Greenville ha ha. Maybe URE or The Promised Land.
My latest real carry is a 2-1/4" Ruger SP101 in .357 Magnum. Love it love it. Got a Simply Rugged Silver Dollar Pancake with the Inside/Out straps to carry it IWB.
Before that a Galco Jackass Rig for my fairly new Glock 27 (.40 cal sub-compact).

Now when I find a good compact 1911 I'll be set for all seasons, costumes and localities I think.

BTW if it's not clear I'm very sold on Simply Rugged leather, built by Rob Leahy in Wasilla Alaska. Yeah, one of Sarah's neighbors. In fact the IWB/OWB holster he makes for small(ish) semi-auto pistols is called a Cuda. I got one of those for my Glock and my S&W Chief's Special .45acp.
I also got his pocket holster for the little Ruger and a Smith 442. Also a gun belt, speed strip carrier, mag carrier, Streamlight carrier, speedloader holder etc etc.

Do you believe that if your company pays you for mileage on your vehicle that they have the right to undermine our State's "Castle Law"?

My company was recently acquired by a company in California and they sent out a memo yesterday forcing us to sign about violence in the workplace. I don't have a problem with any of it except for this item here:
  1. Possesing a weapon on Company Property, or at any Company Event, or while on Company Time.
DEFINITIONS
For purposes of this policy, “on Company property” means in or on any part of any facility used or owned by the Company (including, without limitation, parking lots, restrooms and break rooms) or in any vehicle that the Company owns, rents or leases or for which the Company reimburses expenses.

For purposes of this policy, “while performing Company business” means while you are on Company time (including while you are on any paid rest break) or performing any work for the Company, whether on Company property or elsewhere.

For most of us, our job requires us to work mon.-fri. away from home. So the company furnishes us condos or reimburses us for housing. Based on this we can't have a firearm in our vehicle at any time or in or residence during the week for protection.

If a hotel can't even overide this state law, I don't see how a little company in California thinks they can.

Furthermore our business is in school construction, and if the state is ok with us locking a gun in our vehicle on school property then they shouldn't have a problem with it either. After all, school zones have the lowest tolerance level than any place in the US, even Comi-fornia.

I never took that as including the reimbursement of .55 cents per mile...I always figured it was for company provided vehicles or where they pay you for your payment, insurance, gas, etc to use it as a company vehicle all the time.

Many parking lot rulings are being reversed but one to be of concern anyhow...

All they are trying to do is save their ass as well as all the people who work for them. I'm sure it's not you they are worried about it's who you shoot while on company time and property that could sue the company to the point where people lose their jobs.

Cheap ones aren't any good, good ones aren't any cheap. Same for defense ammo.

I'm reminded of when I was buying a motorcycle helmet, the salesman showed me some from $200-$500. I asked him why pay more. He asked me how much was my brain worth to me.

Trader's on Wade Hampton Blvd is really good. It's where my family goes for their guns. They're customer service is INCREDIBLE and they always have a good selection. A fair amount of used as well. Allen Arms isn't bad, just not quite the selection, but having a range attached is always a plus. They let me put half a box through a 9mm for free just to try it out once.

I strongly agree w/ Bill btw. That's why I don't own a keltec. They are perfect in size, but just not dependable enough for me. That's just my opinion. Dad loves his, but I'm not convinced. You get what you pay for.

I got mom's .357 mag at Trader's when her neighbors got robbed one night too.

You can get another job but not another life. I would do what I felt I needed to do to protect myself. I am lucky, I can carry all over the U.S. but I do it concealed so no one is the wiser. Stay within legal limits but scew the californians.

any handgun you plan on putting your life or the life of your loved ones on for defense.....needs to be the MOST RELIABLE handgun you ever buy....and one you will WANT to carry, shoot, and care for. Cheap and used tend to be afterthought guns......

Someone smarter than me also said to get a handgun that is COMFORTING rather than comfortable....

I am a SIG and SPRINGFIELD handgun self defense guy...but Glock, Ruger, HK, SW, Kahr, Taurus all have well built, reliable and capable weapons. Dont get too spun up over high capacity magazines or different calibers...find what is right for you as 20 rounds dont matter if you cant hit them in the boiler......and a 9mm between the eyes is as dead as a .45.

I just prefer the .40 and .45 holes to little 9mm ones

I meant to mention.... One suggestion would be the Taurus Judge. Great for home defense w/ .410 shells loaded.

Karl X2. Trader's is a good place especially for neophytes. And they suddenly have a PILE of used stuff, I'm not sure why. I ran by there the other day and they didn't have the ammo I wanted but expected some Saturday so I was going to go back but didn't make it.
Anyway their prices are about going rate and like I said-a pile of used stuff at the moment.

I'm a regular at Allen Arms, annual membership type. And they are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Their prices are slightly higher than other places but not exorbitant.

I've bought some stuff at Luthi's. They have good prices and are also knowledgeable and helpful.

I use Blue Ridge Shooting in Greer when I want to order something, they seem to get the best new prices for some reason. Very small but good guys.

For a first timer I recommend a revolver. Easier to learn and less to go wrong. You can rent most any style and type of handgun at Allen and try them out.

The most important thing is get something that feels right and practice practice practice. We're very fortunate that Frank Allen has opened his place on Poinsett Highway last year. Before that it was difficult around here to get and keep your proficiency. And they have reloaded practice ammo at VERY reasonable prices compared to, say, buying cheapo at WalMart.

BTW I have a number of handguns but my go-to for home defense is a shotgun. Nothing says back off bettter than racking the slide on a big pump shotgun. I guess cocking the hammers on a double barrel coach gun would give about the same effect.

For carry I'm pretty much with Brock, I wanna make a big hole if I shoot somebody. Anything that starts with a 4 will do a good job.
OTOH I feel pretty good with a 357 magnum too.
But I'll even slip a 32 in my pocket before I'll go out unheeled. Or a 9. Or 38spcl. Anything is better than none at all.

And it's a lot better to have it when you don't need it then need it when you don't have it. I've only been carrying (legally) for about 1.3 years now but I feel half dressed now if I go out without.

Another plus for Allen Arms is that you can rent a wide variety of weapons and try them out on site. They do have some used stuff also if that is what your after.
