Any of you interested in getting together for a CWP class. I'm assuming lots of you have it already, but some of you may be like me...meant to get it a long time ago and never did. I know a few who would be interested who are not in the club and a guy here in York co. who will do the class with a minimum of 10 participants. Don't know any other details. Shoot me a PM (no puns) and I'll see what I can put together.

I recommend SC's CWP class to anyone who wants to get familiar with handguns and self defense laws. If you already know how to handle a weapon and know SC laws the class will be a cake walk. If you have never touched a weapon you will need to pay attention but you will still pass.
I've taken the class twice. I had to retake it after I moved back into SC from MI. The last time a lady showed up with a brand new revolver that she bought the previous day from a gun store. She ended up passing.
I forget the names of the 2 locals in Travelers Rest that teach the classes but they are good. One is a retired LEO and the other is a current Judge.

I reccomend them even if you don't want to carry. They are very educational, and if you purchase a lot of guns but don't CCW, it saves time on purchases by eliminating the background check. Plus most of the cops around here relax when they know you are a CWP holder during traffic stops. It just shows that you are a responsible gun owner and law abiding citizen.
I took mine last thur. Got a perfect shooting score and a perfect exam score.

I shot a perfect score but got in trouble for shooting too fast.
Instructor "Fire two controlled shots at my command"
Instructor "Fire"
Juice "BAMBAM" (double tap)
Instructor "If you shoot that fast you'll miss the target"
Juice "Look at my target"
Instructor "Oh, OK, make sure you have control"
Juice "Yes sir"
Instructor "Fire three controlled shots at my command"
Instructor "Fire"
Juice "BAMBAMBAM"
Instructor "Now I see a flier - you didn't have control"
Juice "That was two to center-of-mass and a follow-up head shot"
Instructor "Smart ass"
Juice " "
Having a CWP also allows you to carry your loaded gun in your vehicle in a fanny pack, purse, etc instead of just in your glove box, console or trunk.
I have had to show my CWP four times to officers in the past month. You are required to show your CWP anytime you are asked for ID. If I even speak to a cop in an official manner I show my CWP immediately.
First time was when I was rear ended. Cop asked me to unload my weapon and leave it in the car.
Last three times were when cops came by when my FJC was broken into. First one took my CWP to use as ID - besides that he didn't care. Second one looked at it and looked back to what he was doing - didn't care. Third one (a lady) said "AWESOME!"
The second and third cops who came to my house for the FJC break-in said something to the effect of "If you catch 'em give us a call when you're done with 'em." I smiled real big and said "I sure will give you a call." One replied "No, you'll call the City cops, I'm forensics." I replied "Well, then the City will be calling you after I call them!"

I've only shown my once. A routine traffic stop/license check. I handed him my CWP and said "I'll have to get my insurance card out of my glove box". He said "Is there a gun in there?" "Yup" sez I. "You can go" he sez.
It's also very convenient when buying iron. Like Belmont said, it completely endruns the background check which these days always seems to take the max time. Down side is you don't get to re-think impulse buys har har.

I think I heard on the radio this afternoon that a bill was passed to allow firearms in National Forests. Haven't looked into it but I think I heard it, so it must be true.

Yes - I'm waiting for that too!
I need a summer carry piece too. My Glock 27 (subcompact .40) is fairly easy to conceal under a properly fitted t-shirt but it's not the best. I'm thinking about a Keltec .380. Yes, it is a mouse gun but it will fit in my pocket and make me capable of carrying in slacks and a polo shirt.

Screw the Keltec .380, get the Keltec PF9. It's the smallest 9mm I know of, and is about the size of the .380. Or if you must carry a .380, Kahr has a really nice Made In The USA model available that trumps the Keltec .32 in size and the Ruger LCP. The PF9 is less than $300 and weighs less than 13 oz.
YouTube - Kel-Tec PF-9: Table Top Review, Pt 1
The forestry laws you are speaking of petains to non-CWP holders correct? I know if you have a CWP you can carry in any federal forest. You just can't carry in the county run parks like we have in Charleston, but State Parks are fine as long as you have a CWP.

You can carry with your CWP in SC State Parks. That was changed to allow carry in SC State Parks several years back - along with being able to carry at Interstate rest stops.
I'm leaning towards the Keltec 380 b/c the pistol is very small. The 9mm is larger and if I am going up in frame size I'll just carry my Glock.

Years ago I was able to acquire a NH out-of-state permit which allowed me to carry in GA but GA doesn't allow that anymore.
IIRC most states will honor other states permits that have same or more restrictive licensing requirements. IIRC again GA's licensing requirements should be strict enough to qualify but I don't know why they won't.

There is a big difference in the frame size of a Glock 27 and a PF9. The PF9 is 1/2" shorter and 1/3" narrower not to mention 9 oz. lighter. The width is the key, my Ultra 1911 is about the same dimensions as your Glock but is too big for pocket carry.
For me, my BUG or pocket carry is going to be a PF9 or if I have the money a Kahr PM45.

I had the CWP conversation with a guy from NC last weekend. He suggested getting SC and FL (since I have family there and travel there a lot). He said that GA and NC honor FL CWP.
I haven't looked any of this up. Just going on "grillin' on the porch" conversation.

Get a SC CWP, then fill out the non-resident Florida application. Once you get your permit from Florida you will be able to carry in Florida and Georgia.
I did read that they are having a lot of trouble in Florida getting out permits because the state seized 75% of there funds and made them lay off 50% of there staff. If you don't want to chance waiting you can take a Utah CWP class and carry in Florida, Georgia and many other states.

I'd check about GA honoring out-of-state permits. I've heard that they no longer honor out-of-state permits but I just found a page that said they do. I need to look at the actual GA Code of Laws.

The FL CWP gets you GA. Also Miss and Ala which SC doesn't. Check out Handgunlaw.us. Very useful site.
Forget the 380, it's just a 9 short for people that can't handle a 9. If you're shooting a 40 you can handle the Keltec 9. Compare two of the bullets, you'll see what I mean.
I've got a KT P11. I looked long and hard at the PF9 but went with the P11. Two more rounds and only a matchstick wider. Also been around a lot longer so there's more on the net about making it shoot right. The only reason I considered the PF9, and the only reason for its existence IMO is it has a little pick rail under it. I decided I don't need lights and lasers for anything I might get into.
KTs are pretty rough compared to Glock etc., you get what you pay for. Most folks do at least a little cleaning up, "fluff and buff" they call it. Also they need more shooting in to get reliable than spendier pistols. But they're good uns.
KTOG.Org - Kel-Tec Owners Group is the place to read up on KelTecs. And BTW their Customer Service is legendary.
I carried my P11 for a good while until I read the redacted forum thread I referenced in post #56 of this thread. It opened my eyes. Then I carried a S&W Chief's Special in .45acp but recently bought a Glock 27 because I couldn't find the holstery for the Chief that I wanted. I also wanted something I could do IWB at times and the Smith is a little hunky for that.
That being said the KT is a lot lighter and smaller than the G27 and I still use it for pocket carry or just clip it inside my waistband with a side clip when I'm going light. Otherwise it lives in my glove box, handy for BUG or a quick arm-up when I end up somewhere I wasn't planning for.
It will also shoot +P, I wouldn't make it a habit but it will. That makes a pretty good hole, near a light 40.
I also have a KT P32. Now that's a suweet little mouse gun and quite economical. It also has a side clip but I usually just slip it in a front pocket in a little DeSantis pocket holster when I'm really not feeling the need to carry but don't want to feel totally naked.
It will take an extended mag therefore 10+1 shots. I guess that would be enough to discourage someone long enough to run away, even as slow as I am
Carrying the P32 truly gives meaning to "I forget it's there." Lot's of LEOs use them for BUG or second BUG ( i.e. back up gun). Slip it in a ankle rig or a pocket and forget it.

The KT P32 is what I was going to buy until I saw that the 380 was the same size but a larger round.

I'm considering a barrett m82a1 as my CC, does anyone find that strange? Perhaps a dylan minigun, if I can get my hands on it.... I'm guessing one of these would fit on top of my 100, don't ya think???

Eventhough:
I didn't realize that. When I got my P32 it was the big buzz for BUGs and I just thought I'd check it out. I knew about the 3AT but I assumed (there's that dangerous word) it was 9 size. Then again they sold a 40 in the P11 frame for a while so if I'd thought it through I guess I'd have figured it out. Too many problems re: para 2.
I do know that the big load vs small gun causes lots of problems. The larger that discrepancy the more the problems. And the P32 has enough limp wrist failure to feed problems with people that I'd be a bit nervous with 380s in them. YMMV.
That said if it's that size it's a TINY gun. If it works for you then have at it. I'd do a good bit of reading on KTOG and KelTec Range before I trusted my safety on it.
My P32 had some FTF probs which I got over with some ramp work, some firing in and lot of practice.
99UZJay
I don't know for sure but I'm thinking 5 ft long and 30+#s is a bit outside the envelope for concealed carry.
Seems like I recall 18" being the max length for CC in SC.
I'm also thinking you'll have a hard time getting the ATF stamp for the Dillon minigun.
Just sayin'.

I've heard that with the Keltec P32 it works great half the time and the other half you have to get it cleaned up/smoothed out to work great. That is not a good thing with a gun but dang - it is so small!

I know you were kidding, but CWP's only apply torwards handguns. No long gun can be concealed. They'll put you under the jail for that. That type of carry is reserved for people like the secret service.
Nothing like thinking a SS agent is only armed with a pistol when he slings a full-auto short barreled PS90 out from under his armpit.
