I was just looking at a thread about using the saginaw pump since the OEM pump for a 62 is $$$ tht may make it a worth wile swap.

Today's Project: New Shoes for the 62

Tackled a new one today, new pads for the 62:

(1) out with the old;
(2) comparing old and new (yikes!);
(3) in with the new!

Felt good doing this myself. Learned alot. I guess I saved about $150 doing it myself.

Yesterday' Winter Project: High Beam Switch Repair

My high beams have not worked for a while and found a solution on the 60's board: take steering column apart, sand contacts on high beam switch. Worked great and saved over $300!

It's the little things that make a difference. Good job David.

Here's a quick question: My steering wheel (top center) points to about 2 o'clock when driving straight on. Is there an easy fix for this? Do I just take the wheel off and put it back on straight or is there more to it than that. Certainly don't want a "safety issue" to pop up.

Thanks to the recent monsoon, my winter project list just got longer Get home from Christmas with the in-laws and notice that Bull is fogged up inside. Open the doors, and both floorboards are soaked!

From the 60 boards, figured out it is 1 of 3 things. Either the windshield rubber is bad (doubt it would just let go, step change style), or the cowl drain (under the fender) is clogged. This is possible, due to the amount of leaves we have around, but not certain. The third option is most likely, being the drip rail caulk is cracked. A few weeks ago, I was "wheelin'" in the woods behind the house (read hauling brush to the brush pile) and caught the yakima bars on a tree, unbenounced to me, until I heard a big pop. Guessing that cracked the caulking. Any ideas on this, or where best to get the sealer?

Josh, driving down the road, if you take your hands off the wheel, does the truck head for the other lane or ditch? How about your tires, are they wearing evenly? If not, definitely should have the alignment checked. If not, you might be ok re-indexing the steering wheel, but usually that is an indicator of something wrong.

I don't know the answer but I know I've read about it in the 60 section. I think there's something in the FAQ. Also Gehn wrote about it in his thread. Don't remember if he gave details but he did do the job. He'd be a good one to ask as he did such a great job on his HJ.

Nope. 62 drives straight on. Alignment is better than the hundy. That's another issue for the 100 section. Tires are in great shape. The Cuban said the wheel has been that way for a long time. I figure it's from 20 years of alignments and not fixing the wheel at the same time. It's not a problem. I'm just a little OCD so I'd like to fix it sometime soon.

Sounds like an accurate description, so I'd let the OCD run wild on this one

Is it just turned or do you pull as well?

If you are pulling do an alignment...they will true up the wheel as well.

I see others helped out...you can change the position of the wheel if you know what bar to adjust in the front linkage...if you don't take it to a shop, they won't charge much just to straighten the wheel.

Driving down a straight, flat road, I can let go of the wheel and ride for quite a while without drifting to one side or the other. Alignment is great. And, I have no idea which bar to adjust. I'd like to do it myself, but like I said...no safety issues please. This is, after all, my DD. I don't mind taking it to the shop.

new winter project just presented itself yesterday...http://forum.ih8mud.com/sc-upstate-c...ounds-bad.html Still haven't decided on the plan of action.

Two weekends ago we took Cat's Grand Wagoneer out on the trails and her alternator crapped out. The Napa battery actually held up pretty well for a few hours on the trail and (perfect timing) died right as we got back to the little nearby town. So we did a quick swap in the Advanced Auto parking lot in Jasper, TN...good times.

And we continued to work on her Grand Wagoneer this weekend (borrowed shop space at ACC). I just replaced the steering gear box, high pressure PS line and a lower steering column bearing...more good times

I thought there were some floating around in another thread but here ya go:

new lift kit:


right after the 4" lift install and new wheels/tires (BFG M/T 33" x 10.5", thanks to UC annual raffle 2007)


had to do some fender trimming in the rear to make em fit.


old tires...new tires...


checking out the old tcase with the old wheels/tires still on.


We swapped the NP229 for a NP208 tcase for better ratios and stronger case a couple months ago. Split the new donor case and replaced all the bearings and seals, then buttoned her back up and bolted right in place. Had the tranny rebuilt while we did that and all is well with the drive train except the engine at this point. Needs lots of love right now.

This is the day the alternator died.

Rick,

If ACC comes back too much let me know. You can buy the gauges for the backlash and we can rebuild that rear end in your house...

I rebuilt mine in Jack Uys' shop so why not?

I hear ya on that! Then it would match her Gulches trucker cap. Actually she was thinking of doing some sort of animal print like tiger stripes or cheetah spots, which would be fun too. Still deciding on the main body color.

Dave - I dont "need" anything else off of it. Its missing the front fenders, steering box a few engine items, and the front axle. Most everything else is there. You load it and for $500 cash its yours.

for somereason I am assuming this is a 62...
if not stop reading
drive somewhere where you know the wheels are straight
pull the center/horn cap
remove the nut (19mm I believe) (dont take it off all the way)
give the steering wheel a good tug (if you have taken the nut off you will be wearing the steering wheel when it comes off) no need for a puller

turn it to where it looks correct and re install,,

I have removed my steering wheel 4 times in the last 2 weeks, it is definatly a job

I replaced my horn pin last week the hardest part was getting screwed by SOR

that camo does look good, and I am not a camo guy

thats a good deal on the 60 even if it is missing parts, heck the engine, transmission and transfercase are worth , did you say it is missing the front axel? loading is going to be a bugger unless you hire a flatbed tow truck.

Missing trans and TC too. Although I have parts of a clutch and the bell housing. Yeah front axle is gone so it would be kind difficult to load without a winch or rollback. Someone needs to buy it as I need the $ for taxes.

I recently adopted an abused 3 yo white shepherd named Roi. He's a very sweet dog but has problems with confidence and trust which is understandable. He has made great progress in the last few weeks but still has a ways to go.

Well I finished my first project for the winter. I cleaned my garage out. For those of you who don't know me this was a major undertaking. I spent 4 days cleaning it and can honestly say I could put a vehicle in there.

The biggest obstacle was moving the 2f that was sitting in the middle of the garage over to one side without the use of a hoist.
