Registration page.

http://upstatecruisers.net/events/lowcountry-boil/

Guys and gals.

Do you realize we are only about 4 weeks away from some fine eating, camping and fishing?

Chuck you need to start working on the convoy map.

Gehn should have the registration page up soon.

I'm looking forward to doing some fishing and shrimping. Got my shrimping license last week.

Make sure you go over to the LC section and check out the threads on the event.

Beaufort grocery store tip...

If you are arriving on and traveling along hwy 21 and need some last minute supplies.. there will be four (4) grocery stores to chose from. Out of towners always get nervous and stop at the Ghetto Pig... bad choice. There is, in this order; Bi-Lo, Ghetto Pig, Publix, and Food Lion. The Food Lion is a little ghetto also.. so take heed. Food Lion and Publix are side by side. They are about 15 minutes from the camp site.

I just checked the site and it looks like there are still some campsites near the water- 60-63 I think it was, close to showers and bathrooms for the ladies.

Remember there is the group camp area we will be having the event at. It's free camping there with your registration. If you need showers close by or power then I'd suggest making arrangements in another spot.

Registration is going to be $40 per person and includes a seafood dinner Friday and Sat night as well as camping in the group area.

well hell, when you mentioned shrimpin, fishin, and cruisers I thought I had died and gone to heaven on a bun,,,almost sounded like you designed this trip just for me!!

it is the right weekend of October, the only one I dont already have plans for,
it is far enough off so I can make plans,
it is distance far enough so I feel like it is vacation,,
and if it is even half of what I have heard about the OTMT trip or the other UC trips I have been on, then a good time will be had by all

looking forward to coming, I am counting the days

marshall, do we need to make "reservations" with you for the group campground, is everyone making their own overnight plans? is there enough room at the group site?

The registration fee will inculde camping and a meal Friday and Sat night. Total number we can have is 60. I think we will be okay. Some people want the comfort of having their vehicle right there and having showers close by as well as power. I can understand. Heck Becca and Josie and I are staying in the condo's about a mile away. I figure I'll retire back to them when everybody starts crashing.

Camping in the group area is primitive other than bathrooms and running water. No electricity. Kind of like it that way. We will just setup a bunch of lanterns and have a big fire. Kind of make it old school down south beach style.

That reminds me I've got to replace some seals in the boat motor.

Registration page is up.

Upstate Cruisers

I've gone ahead and reserved the site for Thursday also to make it a little longer. Anyone coming in Thursday will be on their own as far as food. I'll be using this day to set the camp up.

I checked on some prices for fishing trips: inshore and offshore.

Inshore for 4 people runs about $600.00 to $650.00 some boats can add a 5th ($60.00 extra)

Offshore for 6 people runs $850 to $975 (the boats I checked only will take 6)

I didn't find anything like the Thunderstar here in Mount Pleasant that will hold 60 people.
It runs $90.00 per person for all day. About an hour and a half away. (leaves at 6:00 am)

Both the inshore and offshore will do 1/2 or 3/4 day trips for a little less.

I need to hear back from any one interested to make reservations.
Deposits are about 1/2 trip costs.

Are those prices all inclusive?

IE: includes fuel surcharge, and gratuities, equipment, cleaning and freezing of catch?
or should we budget another 50$ pp or so for that?

I dont have any saltwater fishing gear. when do we have to make the reservations by?

thanks for looking into it, got any "bites" yet, anyone else interested?

looks like I am a 5-6 hour drive from Hunting Island, plus gas stops, running late, license stops, walmart stops, and no breakdowns,,,, so if I am lucky I will leave around 9 pm thursday

on second thought I will try to leave in the afternoon, maybe after lunch on thursday

what are others plans coming from the anderson/clemson area, anyone able or want to convoy down. pm me your possible schedule and we'll see what we can coordinate,

Prices are mostly all inclusive. All but one provided everything but food and drinks.

I.E. fuel. fishing gear, licenses, etc...

The offshore only had anything about cleaning the catch, but inshore, it's no problem.

Also, don't forget, there's also a dock at Hunting Island for fishing, crabbing, shrimping, etc...

I emailed the ranger at the Island, here is what I emailed and what I got back, I deleted any non relevant info.

I can bring the turkey fryer, and will try to bring some firewood,,,,,

Thank you for your inquiry,

1 – In the primitive/group camping areas there are grills as well as fire rings for your use. A propane cooking device is allowed, as long as it is something that can be hand carried back into the camping area.

2 – Yes, campfires are allowed as long as they are contained within the fire rings provided.

3 – There are alligators on the park as well as lots of other wildlife. You are not likely to encounter any alligators in the salt-water areas on the park as they tend to frequent the fresh water. We don’t often see people snorkeling as the visibility underwater is limited. Here is the exact text from our brochure:

“To ensure that your State Park experience is enjoyable, please be aware of the dynamic characteristics of the natural environment. There are some areas that may be potentially hazardous. All visitors should exercise caution when visiting any state park. Anyone who is unsure about possible hazards should contact a Park Ranger”. If you have any questions about specific areas of the park once you arrive, please contact one of the Rangers.

4- As long as you are not fishing from a boat, a fishing license is not necessary on the park. If you are on a boat, then whatever South Carolina permit requirements are in place would apply.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

Carl Berube

Park Ranger

Hunting Island State Park

SC Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism

2555 Sea Island Pkwy

Hunting Island, SC 29920

Phone:(843)-838-4868

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does the group campground have grills for public use, is it ok to bring a "turkey fryer" type of propane cooking device?

Are campfires allowed at the group campground?

the website says there are alligators, and other wildlife, is the area safe and favorable for kids to go snorkeling?

is fishing, shrimping, and crabbing allowed with the appropriate state permits?

Charleston this weekend

I was in Charleston and bought a new cast net this weekend (labor day) thought I would give it a try. Caught a few shrimp along with this guy.

We have family day @ College of Charleston the same weekend of UC Shrimp / Crab. I might make it Thurs and Friday though.
