If cell reception = is there a way for family at home to get in touch? Has that been covered already? I found the number for the Murphy police and fire stations. Anything at OMT?

Cell reception is not good at all. You might get lucky with a text message, but sustaining a voice call is darn near impossible. Going back to Green Cove is probably the best shot for finding a pay phone. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to head towards Tellico Plains, TN to get back to modern civilization. There is no established plan for us to receive phone calls - and some of us prefer it that way.

There are some places on the trails where you can get cell service, depending on your carrier and your phone. So, they'll just have to know that you'll be incommunicado for a few days.

I noticed on the google map in the first post that, coming from Asheville, it has us going through Robinsville rather than murphy and dropping down off the Cherohalla Skyway. Is this the best way?
Smymtn and I are convoying (does 2 make a convoy?) Saturday a.m.

Unless you really need to get something in Murphy, I think taking the Skyway would be a quicker route to McNabb for anyone coming from a northern area.

I will say this. Unless you have gps, or a really good map, or a great sense of direction, or have written the millages down or have been to McNabb before I would not reccomend to anyone to try to come in after dark.
Be prepared. Just don't glance at the map and think you can make it. The current Pres., VP., and Sec., have all gotten lost at Tellico. And I can tell you from personal experience it is no fun.

X2 on coming in from Tellico from Atlanta! I got so lost I ended up in Tellico before I ended up at the ORV.
If you do take that route, be sure to stop by the ranger station along the River Road and pick up a FREE map of the area. This is a high quality color map of Tellico and will help keep you oriented in the future (I am pasting mine to the inside of my windshield!!!) The ranger station has also been renovated and it is quite nice and may be your last chance for porcelin for quite some time.

Smitty, have you guys figured out your Friday schedule yet? Looks like you and Steenh are going up together. Sylvain and I will caravan it up as well but departure time is still up in the air. We may also be dragging Josh and his dad (maybe) up and would meet up in Blairsville.

right now I'm in Roanoke VA. I'm planning on heading into Murphy to the Super Walmart to pick up my final groceries and supplies. I should be there around 3:30 pm if anyone else is around and wants to drive to the camp that would be great.
From there I should be at the camp around 5:00pm and I'll be on channel 4 while making my way there. If anyone is at camp with a CB and I haven't made it could you give me a shout out.
My cell phone is 978.273.0493 in case someone wants to set up a meet at the super walmart
See everyone later.
I'll sponge some WIFI later and check back here for messages

I spoke wih Crusier100 and it looks like we might head up with them (Steenh, Cruiser100 and 1 other I think) in the morning on Friday. My passenger got the whole day off work so we want to try to get up there with enough time to wheel a little before dinner. If you and Sylvain can get out in the morning, we would love to have you join us (as I speak for others here, but I don't see wht anyone would mind having more rigs to take over the road with). If you can't, hopfully you won't be too far behind so you can wheel with us. I don't have a departure time yet, but I am pretty sure we are going to meet up somewhere off 400 really close to you.

Hi Rick,
I'll be in the general area at about the same time. (stopping to play at the river in Natahalia Village and the like)
My cell is 803-371-3782
Watch for me on the ride as well. I'll be driving the red headed step child.
Jim

Again, I'm leaving Greenville sometime between 3 and 4 today, going through Clemson, if anyone is interested in caravaning. That should put me in Murphy between 5 and 7, so I will keep my eyes open for anybody else headed that way...

I wish Eric! I'll be leaving tomorrow around lunch time for any Atlanta stragglers. I just can't leave that child of mine for more than 2 nights. Hell, even that's freaking me out.

Becca has the same problem.
On another note I just handed off all the food to Carl. Yes a jeeper will be hauling up all our fuel. Wish him luck. I'm tired worn out from running around every second for the pat week wrenching and getting stuff for the event.
I need a beer.

Green Cove has gas. It's only a few miles. But to a real BP, it's about 15 miles or so.

Steen and I are going to meet at 400 & 20 (exit 14 off of 400), we 'think' there is an iHop around there somewhere. The time is based on me getting my son up and out of the house, I'm shooting to be out by 9 at the latest, 8 if I can do it. It'll take me 30-45 minutes to get to the meeting place...
I plan on calling Steen when I leave the house; anyone else I need to call?
Or, do we want to attempt to nail down a time to meet???
