I don't have an address (maybe Marshall has one or a lat/long) but I will give you a warning - do NOT trust a gps unit to get you to the trails/McNabb/Crawfords, etc....trust me on this one...it can make for long, very uncomfortable trips with a very .

Here's a link I sent to landtank last week. Just change the start point and you can even drag the "route" (purple line) around to alter the route to your needs.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...,0.248909&z=12

[Updated google maps link above...we're not in Kansas anymore..he-he-hee]

I am making arraignments and hoping to make this trip. (Had to leave early during the April trip to Crawford's CG)

Can anyone tell me if there is cell/blackberry service in that area? And good fresh drinking water or do we have to bring everything in?

Never camped at McNabb before and the FS site seems scetchy.

How about filling in the first-timers on the area and CG, weather, etc.

Thanks alot!

You will need to have fresh drinking water. There is a big stream nearby and it's crystal clear but I still wouldn't drink from it. AT McNabb there is very little cell coverage but it is available on certain parts of trail one and some of the other trails we will be on. You need to be prepared for primitive camping. Granted there are port-a-jons in camp. We rented the whole campground and there will not be anyone other than us around.

Tellico river is a 1/4 mile away and has some good trout fishing. You want to come in through Murphy, NC. There is a Super Walmart wher you can pickup everything. Tellico Plains which is north of our campsite and probably closer has only one grocery store and it's not a great one.

Weather so far looks to be around the mid 80's during the day and mid 60's at night.

I hope you can make it.

Thanks Marshall,

I may pull my camper and "really rough it" since two 9 yrs (boy and girl) and dog are coming. It is self contained too. Just need to find water somewhere rather than drag 40 gals across the mountain.

I know the feeling...I'll be pulling my pimp House across trail 1 with 46 gal. of water and 10 of fuel for the generator!
But well worth it!
See ya there

I have not decided on a route yet. Have to work out a few details at the office before I leave the "mice" behind to run my business in the ground while I away. (What do you mean, "how much damage can they do in just 3 days"?)

I am open for route suggestions from I-26/I-40.

Thanks

You're traveling south and I'll be traveling north going by Murphy and then across trail 1
Trail 1 isn't for your everyday camper! not until they pave it anyway!

Hey Rick,

How did you know where I took my pup to leave with a professional trainer? The map has his town near the center. Feel like I might be in an Outer Limits story!!

OK. I'm in! I spoke w/ Juice last night and I'm ridin shotgun for him and anyone that's got an open seat once we get there. And of course, I'm willing to help and volunteer where I may be needed. Sounds like some good times and it'll be nice after Summer Finals on Wednesday!

weather in Murphy will be mid-80's for highs and around 60 for lows...and probably will be a few degrees cooler at our campsite! Only a slight chance for rain throughout most of the trip!

updated directions and map link for those going thru Murphy...

Directions from Murphy, NC (from my maps):
From downtown Murphy, you go north on Tennessee Street/Joe Brown Highway about 2 miles. Then turn right at the flashing light onto Hanging Dog Road. Stay on Hanging Dog for about 6 miles. You’ll pass the sign to Crawford’s Campground at the Beaver Dam Rd fork, stay right at the fork to continue up Hanging Dog which will become Davis Creek Rd. Davis Creek Rd. then turns to gravel and becomes Trail One. Stay on Trail One until you cross the short bridge and go left towards Green Cove. This is River Road on most maps. The campground is off of N. River Road approximately 1 mile past Green Cove gas station.

from:Tennessee St @35.089363, -84.035474 to:Beaver Dam Rd/Davis Creek Rd/NC-1331B @35.186520, -84.054130 to:35.327801,-84.129438 - Google Maps

Detail map of Green Cove to McNabb Camp.

I might be able to come up Friday night or early Saturday. The 40 is sick though. Busted fuel pump. Spent a couple of hours Sunday covered in gasoline.

Is anyone in need of a spotter? I would hate to have to stay in camp and wash dishes while everyone else is on the trail.

Trail one go across the NC state line into Green Cove. Then a right on north RIver road. Thre are two ways to get to camp. I take the longer but easier to find. Especially at night. Your gonna cross a bridge on trail 1 take right there which should be north river rd. McNabb will be on the left. It's hard to see. There is a bridge right after the entrace to the group camp. We will try to have something on the road.
