Advice on local mechanic
Hiyas-
I'm currently wrestling an Aisan carb install in my 79' 40.I bought the truck in Greensboro last year, it is pictured in the upstate cruiser calender for May,I think. It is grey w/ an ARB bumper.I have since added new hard doors, sound system and a few minor trim items. This carb is kicking my butt- I have learned a good deal on mud and gotten much help from its members(particularily Jim C.) who have been kind enough to help me thus far. I want to find a mechanic locally who can help me get this truck finished . (the whole saga is in the 60 section under "aisan carb install") I feel it is down to tweeking adjustment of carb, and I just dont have the ear or experience to do it efficiently. I do not want a member to finish my job for free, or commit to a protracted job.I would like a recomendation of a shop someone has used (anyone heard of Toyota Hut?),or an experienced ear/ eye to give any advice on this thing. I will be joining lowcountry cruisers, although I am not a wheeler. I enjoy my truck for its beauty, character, and the challenge of putting an old workhorse back in good order. She is my daily driver, and worth all her aggrevation. Wow-got a little poetic there. Thank you- Paul S.

If it's already installed, I can do the adjusting for you if you will bring it to Mt. Pleasant. I used to be a mechanic so it's not a problem. Otherwise check out Frankie's Tire off
cross county rd. he has always hired good mechanics. You will want to wheel. Rocks are the only way to go!!!!!!! |

McIntyre's on N. Lansing (near the intersection of Jonnie Dodds and Mathis Ferry) is a very reputable Toyota specialist. I don't have his number handy, but he's factory trained and knows the FJ40.
Good luck. __________________ "To enjoy life to the fullest, take big bites. Moderation is for monks." (RAH) '77 FJ40 '05 Volvo S60R |

Heya-
great info on the mechanic thing-thanks to all. Mooker was kind enough to take a peek at it and is thinking fuel pump. This confirms what another mechanic said, so the pump is on order. Will post rig pics soon- must pay membership 1st .Thanks again cruiserheads! |

carb
when I rebuilt scotts, I had to drill the passage for the accelerator pump. Check to be sure when you hit the throttle(with the motor off) that you get a good stream of gas into the venturi. Also what kind of distributor are you running?? The point types are bad about burning up points and also wearing out shafts. This will do strange things to your timing. (can you say DUI??). Just some things to check.

pick one
Hi- I have been to Toyo Hut on cross County and have called McIntoshes in Mt P.Toyo Hut had an early 70's (73-74?) light green 40 there currently. He said they would look @ mine it when that one is finished( week- 10 days). McIntoshes said next Wed. I think I will limp it up to them this weekend. I'm so ready to get that thing running.Hope its done by the monthly meeting!
Thanks, Paul |
