we had it to a science on our docks...me and brother in law would cast on rising tide in evening over bait balls we put out in specific areas around dock and floater......wives would have 1qt containers at sink up on main dock head...we would catch and sort...they would grab buckets when getting full and head and then back in containers...top off with water...seal...and haul to freezer in red wagon. MMMmmmmmmm

Hey guys I want y'all to start thinking about doing a t-shirt for the event. Might want to start a thread and start concepting. If you want to change the name of the event that is fine with me. If you get something good do by say mid to late August we will set it up in the registration page. This way we can start generating some funds for you LC guys. Registration page should be done in a couple weeks once I finalize all the details.

Are we responsible for the artwok, or do we have someone in the club that can draw graphics? I thought about a cartoonish FJ40 with a shrimp driving it on some dunes. Don't know who would be capable of drawing it though.

I don't know either but I like the concept. We have a few graphic designers but I have yet to find an artist. I can draw a mean 40 on my daughter etch a sketch though.

I'll try something but it would be nice if someone would step up to the plate and take this on. We have a couple of good printers who could do t-shirts.

my brother owns one of the largest silk screen and embroidery companies in region and does work for a large number of resorts, cruise lines, Dole Plantation, Parker Pens, etc....plus has done all my shirts for military and motorcycles over the years. he is not cheapest but is definitely the best in quality of shirts and quality of workmanship...I have shirts that are going on 10 years old that are still bright and vivid. Even if someone does artwork it has to be converted to where it can be separated for silk screens to be setup for each color.....

if someone has some art ideas i can put them in touch with him or his sales staff to work through it if they choose him...that way i am out of loop in case there are questions of my involvement. As example I recently gave some art ideas to his artist....had him refine it and work it so it looked nice and not from a first grader.....artwork cost, setup fees, tshirts with 5-6 colors on artwork with main image on rear and smaller item on left chest area for 156 shirts had me selling shirts for $15 each to make a little extra for our club. It all revolves around what you want and the quality you want....
Let me know if I can help...

My wife is an Art Teacher. I'll put the idea to her!

We just got back from vacation in Beaufort. Went to Hunting Is and climbed the lighthouse. The whole area is beautiful! Can't wait for this trip!

Marshal...Maybe we (you) should start a new thread for this event with the current information. I was getting a bit confused reading through all the posts. You could link to this as the "Planning" thread.

Marshall, are you bringing a grill down to do any BBQ? If not, do we need a grill for anything? I am going to inventory all my cooking supplies in the next few weeks, and I will post what I can bring. I would like to volunteer to help with the cooking. I may bring my boat down and can carry some people out fishing as well. We will try to get some things figured out by the next meeting.

Looks like we have some things done but others need to be ironed out.

1. We need to come up with a price. It needs to be simple. I'd much rather do one price for the whole weekend which will include food for Friday and Saturday night. I'm thinking 20-40 per person which would cover the main camping gathering area with and food. I would think the seafood if we bought it all would be be around 10-20 a head per night possibly less. I haven't done a boil in a while so I don't know current prices. I figure that children under 10 should eat free. I need some guidance from you guys.

2. We need to figure out if we can charter a boat or boats for fishing Sat. Would be nice to have an inland and a deep sea option. We could just add these to the registration page shopping cart.

3. Come up with a t-shirt design and sell it everyone so we can raise some funds for the LC side.

4. Assuming we get this done we can get the registration page up and start working on getting people to come. I would think 30-60 people would come to this event given the large location of Hunting Island, the food, the fishing and the ability to set a spot up and do what ever you want and know an awesome dinner will be waiting for them that night.

I have a grill but it's not a great one. Probably be good if we had something better and larger than what I have. If Osagecruiser brings a bunch of meat we will need a big grill. We could always throw a couple of bags of coals in the fire pit and throw a grate over it and do it that way. I'd like to plan on doing some oyster on the grill. I've got some really good recipies as well as doing bacon wrapped BBQ shrimp. Which are awesome.

I think one night we would have a big crab boil and steamed oysters and have the second night with frogmore stew and some fancy seafood dishes.

I'll try to see if I can borrow my coworkers grill. He is a BBQ nut and holds a big charity event in Columbia every year. His grill is pretty big. Crab pots, and netting off the beach will be great for catching blues for the crab boil. You can throw out two pots per boat, so the more boats we have the more crabs we have. They need to sit out over night though, so crabs the second night would be good.

T-shirt sales need to be seperate. We can worry about that once we get a design. But we can already figure out what we need to charge. My idea is to do one charge per person for two nights. 6 dollars per head for the main area for two nights and then something to add to it for food. I know seafood isn't cheap but I don't have a clue what to charge.

That's going to take some time to figure out. There are a lot of factors that either drive the cost up or down. We should probably first start with a menu, then figure the best way to acquire and prepare everything. $15 per head per night might cover food/drinks. We might want to see what all we can do with that.

I guess the t shirt will be sold seperately, but I think people need to order them at the same time or else we can't guarantee there will be enough to go around.

Jeremy

having the tshirt as part of the registration fee would be best with a small number so you know up front exactly what sizes and how many to order from vendor...with a few extras for stragglers or last minute attendees...but should be fairly solid before then.

Problem with having it part of registration is your limiting it to just the people that come. Making it seperate gives you a whole different person who is willing to buy. You stop t-shirt sales 3 weeks prior to the event along with a few extras and order then having them ready at the event a ship the rest to people who have bought.

T-shirt logistics will not be an issue. Artwork yes. Food cost yes. Charging for the site no.

I asked my wife, and she said she could work on something for the T-Shirt. Don't know when she can get around to it.
I will be bringing my turkey cooker and a few cast nets and seine nets.

Anybody else bringing kids? Dogs?

I found this design online. Might be a good start for someone. Maybe modify the look and color a little and add a shrimp driver. I guess we would just us the LC logo on the breast, and put this on the back with Lowcountry Land Cruisers Shrimp and Crab Boil 2008. Just a start.
