FJ-40 Build, 1/10 th scale
Guys,
I wasn't sure where to put this, so I though the 40 guys would want to see it. This is what I do at my little company in Montana. MontanaScaleDesigns.com
I build 1/10 scale versions of 1:1 rigs, super duper scale. Here is a FJ-40 that is a build for a very good friend of mine, he is going on the Detroit Locker Tour this next week with 4-wheel and off road.
Here are the build specs and parts list and some fun pics for you guys to see. Mods, if this is the wrong spot, feel free to move it, thought the 40 guys would want to see it.
" The Ultimate 40 "
Awhile back, a very good friend of mine asked if I would build a 1/10 scale version of his 1:1 FJ-40. His truck is a multiple magazine featured truck and has been on the ultimate adventure tour, the detroit locker tour and been to the baja 1000 and 500 and a pit crew truck. It is 1 of a kind. So I started gathering parts and pieces, got together with beckworks and sent them a ton of pics. Got the tubework from beckworks, not too long ago and got a call from my buddy who said. " I am going on the detroit locker tour again this year, can you have it done by the 25th of april so I can take it? " 4-wheel and off road mag will be doing a story on the tour, so I said I would get it done. I am gonna have to bust my azz this week, but come friday, she is driving out of my shop.
Anyone who was at the scale event last year saw this 40, it is a work of art, I hope I can do it justice.
Specs:
- Full tube work and steel chassis
- MSD 1.9 rock solid beadlocks- 5
- MSD ultimate lockouts
- MSD Ultimate axle c's
- MSD tlt s/s screw kit

Stay tuned, this is gonna be done and out the door in 5 days, wish me luck.

OH ****, I told you to trim the body, not hack the body.
you do realize that that is a $100 + dollar, dis-continued fj-40 body right?
gotta get to the battery pack and electronics somehow?
hinges and latches going on now.

* DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *
I am so tired I cannot even see straight. Slobin3d " aaron " and I delivered it at 11pm last night, 1 hour before the deadline "thumbsup" it left for the Detroit locker tour with the 1:1 at 5am this morning, with any luck it will be in 4-wheel and off-road magazine with the 1:1 in a featured article about his truck in the next couple months."thumbsup"
This was a really fun build, but we did cram it into a short time frame. Nothing much else to say, I will get the video up soon, it crawls as good as it looks, the winch is superb and the led's, well they just kick ass!
He test drove it and rolled it within 5 minutes, he had a smile from ear to ear, could not get enough of it."thumbsup"
pics of BOTH rigs:
under the hood, tight fit
aaron painted the warn hubs.
Test Drive"thumbsup"

bushwacker was for mockup, fj-40 body will be the only one on it.
the frames are not cheap, send me an e-mail please, I am not a vendor here and do not want to break the rules.

Very nice! I have a Bushwacker body just sitting on the shelf waiting to be put to use. I know it isn't as nice as the Proline original body, but it is good enough for me and my kid to build some day.
And that "real" 40 is super sweet too. I saw it last summer at the Divide Ride in Whitehall, Montana.

Thanks Eric,
it was a blast to build. I got a call from the owner, he is out on the detroit locker tour this week, broke a stub shaft and 2 inner axles, but was able to do trail repairs on all and the R/C cruiser is back up and running strong!

Thanks for all the good words guys. I guess it was a pretty big hit on the " detroit tour " , got about 30 hours of drivetime on it in 7 days
Even got compliments from robbie gordon, owner of mastercraft seats and clifton slay, owner or poison spyder customs. Both drove it and both loved it.
watch for it in the next few issues of 4-wheel and off road mag.
