Well today I made a in engine press to try and move the sleeves into place. I did get them to more and they are now at the maximum allowable protrusion and the are all level other than #2 the part of it next too #1 is still off a bit if I take a machines straight edge and lay it from 1-3 I can fit a .005mm feeler through. I don't think I can get it any closer than it is with out a full tear down and paying a specialist to do the sleeves.

Any ideas?

Here is my press, on e I have the bolts torqued to 100ft/lbs I then give it a few good smackes with a 3lb sledge.

How satisfying was the banging on the top of the press plate. Did you gain any extra?

Because of the liners are grabbing further down the bores the spring in the liner may push the top lip up a little. The shock from tapping them down could settle them.

Honestly it was about the best feeling since the birth of my son. I was having a hard time restraining taking the sledge to the rest of my truck.

Do you have an electric block heater? If yes, warm up the block and a bigger BFH may do the trick.

Nice tool you made.

Unfortunately I do not. Good idea.

Do you happen to have the sleeve tool? I maybe needing it shortly.

I borrowed a sleeve tool that Adam on 4BT made. I started a thread on who has the "Dustin" sleeve tool and someone replied. I got side tracked on my build and still need it, or I would ask Adam if I could send it to you.

On the heat idea, even a couple heat lamps overnight aimed at the block might make enough difference?

OK I got a sleeve tool on the way in the next few days. So just in case I need it I should have it.

So I priced out 4 new sleeves from Isuzu today as well as rings. Not going to be too bad, I'm going to reuse my clevite pistons with new rings in the graded Isuzu sleeves. Just waiting for the sleeve tool to arrive and I'll pull it down to measure for the sleeves.

Yay to rebuild round 2......

Part numbers please!

Do not have any yet..... Do you not have Isuzu dealers down there?

I'll post the numbers and the grades I get when the parts arrive.

My nearest dealer is 2 hours drive away.

Thank you Mr. Wheelingnoob and everyone else for the extraordinary detailed documentation. I am about 90% complete on a rebuilt of a 4BD1T which I intend on placing into a motorhome. I've reached a point where the knowledge of anyone that has time to guide me through the final details would be appreciated. If anyone is interested and is located close to Pasadena, CA please send me a PM and I will go over the details.

Thank you again Mr. Wheelingnoob and I look forward to reading and seeing more of your work.

So I have a set of clevite cylinder kits lined up. I had the seller measure them and the top ring that sits into the block measure.

1. .155"
2. .155"
3. .155"
4. .1555"

That to me looks good, the one that is 1/2 a tho deeper I do not think this will cause any issue that's such a small amount.

These kits are very high quality so I do not see an issue going with them again. I just need to get them installed correctly this time.

No. Make sure that the rebate in the block is accurate and consistant around the entire circumference, and the face of the deck is true. One of those might be 1/2 a thou lower.

Yep plan to check that all out when I get the sleeve tool and remove the current sleeves.

While the clevite liners might be decent quality. They won't be graded to size. I'd mic up the bores before ordering.

They won't correct. I'm not sure how much benefit spending the extra $800 for Isuzu liners and rings will get me. Slightly quiter running maybe but it's already a quiet engine.
