Hi. I'm heading north on a trans-America trip and entering the US in May. Can anyone advise a reliable/experienced, 70 series-loving mechanic/garage in the South-west, preferably Arizona (as I'm heading to Overland Expo in Flagstaff. Thanks guys.

Nice rig James wish I could help with your question but I live downunder. If your make it down hear I would be happy to lend you my home workshop for repairs.

The closest specialty shop to Flagstaff is going to be Safari Limited in Grand Junction Colorado.

Hugh Phillips runs it.

+1 for Hugh at Safari limited

if you get to Tucson, There is a stash of spares if you have an issue and a couple knuckle heads who know the 70 series. Also have links to solid electrical and fab people here.
PM me for contact info

Hi James,

In a word no! But I guess it depends what work the Troopy needs. Read my thread
https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/troopy-rust-and-other-issues.853395/ for some of the issues I have encountered. PM me for more details.

Looks like your rig would be right up my street but appears too new to be imported into Canada, even if it were for sale???! I'm off to Europe next week to try and find something suitable. A shame since it would have been good to have met up at the Overland Expo.

Assuming your rig came from Europe, any trustworthy contacts you may have would be appreciated.

Enjoy the US!

Hugh has a 70 series or two and has a a parts network to pull maintenance stuff from. Looks like that troopie was patched up from the start and is one of many poor candidates imported to the US. I guess the list of good shops is evaporating (or has evaporated to none!).

Anyway, if you get stuck I have a stash to get you back on road.

Not all sow's ears make good silk purses. :hmm:

Hi David,
Good luck in Europe with your search - these 70 series are not easy to find. Nobody wants to give them up. We bought ours in Switzerland and had the back section put on by psiAzalai of France. The only contact I can suggest is Julain at www.overland-cruisers.co.uk. He might be able to help you. Coming up through south America there were quite a lot of the 70 series. I would say that is a good place to look.
Cheers for now

Hi James,

Thanks for the message and links. May be I'll go and see the psiAzalai guys. I've had a quick look through your blog and will look again when I have more time. Inspirational.

Cheers,

David
