Charcoal Canister, 78 FJ40 (1 Viewer)

From what I've read here at IH8MUD, the canister is non-serviceable, but I keep looking at that star shaped nut on the very top with what appears to be a rubber seal under it and saying what would happen if I try to unscrew that fitting? Anybody attempted this, saw where one fellow simply cut the whole lid off the can. Backing off this star like fitting would so much neater.

they are sealed. just spend the $35 for a new autozone one
