OZ members what kind of wood? (1 Viewer)

Hey guys,
I was hoping one of the Austrailian members on the forum could help me identify this wood. It was given to me from a fellow who brought it back from a trip to the outback. I am a knife maker and would like to use it for a set of handles.

Australian ironwood aka casuarina

The outside looks like gidgee to me, the inside looks about the right colour but with more rings of different shades, we have heaps of it around here. Is it unusually heavy for its size?

I'm about to build a pergola in a few months when it warms up out of some Iron wood like this, not looking forward to all the cuts because of the hardness but it sure is good looking and long lasting.

I'll try to remember to post some pics in this thread when I get it done.
